Compression of unitary rank--structured matrices to CMV-like shape with an application to polynomial rootfinding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper is concerned with the reduction of a unitary matrix U to CMV-like shape. A Lanczos--type algorithm is presented which carries out the reduction by computing the block tridiagonal form of the Hermitian part of U, i.e., of the matrix U+U^H.

Engineering extracellular vesicles as novel treatment options: exploiting herpesviral immunity in CLL

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, 2019
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are important mediators of cell–cell communication. Intriguingly, EVs can be engineered and thus exploited for the targeted transfer of functional proteins of interest. Thus, engineered EVs may constitute attractive tools for

Association of Cytomegalovirus DNA and Immunologic Markers of Cardiovascular Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundPersons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLWH) with high cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific interferon (IFN) γ response have increased numbers of endothelium homing receptor (CX3CR1)+-expressing cells that are associated with ...

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Reflectionless CMV matrices and scattering theory

open access: yes, 2014
Reflectionless CMV matrices are studied using scattering theory. By changing a single Verblunsky coefficient a full-line CMV matrix can be decoupled and written as the sum of two half-line operators. Explicit formulas for the scattering matrix associated

Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion Leads to Transient CD8 Immune Deficiency and Accelerated Immunosenescence in CMV-Seropositive Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Rationale: There is mounting evidence of a higher incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in cytomegalovirus (CMV) seropositive individuals. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether acute MI triggers an inflammatory T-cell ...

The Relationship Between Inflammation and Central Nervous System in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune demyelination disease that is seen especially in the young population and has a progressive course, causing motor, sensory, and cognitive deficits. In the literature, the pathogenesis of MS disease and the interconnection between the immune and central nervous system in the disease have not been fully ...

The Prevalence of Herpes Virus Infections in the Active Phase in Hospitalized Children with Rotavirus Infection

open access: yesДетские инфекции (Москва), 2018
Under the supervision there were 301 children hospitalized in an infectious hospital with a diagnosis of rotavirus infection. All children were examined for the presence of human herpes virus DNA 4, 5 and type 6 (EBV, CMV, HHV6) in the blood.
