ALDOA Promotes Glycolysis and NLRP3/GSDMD Pyroptosis to Accelerate ALS Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Glycolytic dysregulation is implicated in disease progression, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how Aldolase A (ALDOA) drives ALS progression through glycolysis‐mediated motor neuron pyroptosis.

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.

The Case of a 40‐Year‐Old Man With New‐Onset Status Epilepticus in the Setting of HIV Infection

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 40‐year‐old man from Andhra Pradesh in India, while on regular antiretroviral treatment (ART) for long‐standing HIV infection presented with a 1‐day history of new‐onset status epilepticus. CT and MRI brain showed multifocal cerebral ring lesions, some of which demonstrated characteristic ‘hole‐with‐a‐dot’ sign.

Aging and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection differentially and jointly affect distinct circulating T cell subsets in humans

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 2014
The impact of intrinsic aging upon human peripheral blood T cell subsets remains incompletely quantified and understood. This impact must be distinguished from the influence of latent persistent microorganisms, particularly CMV, which has been associated

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

CMV seropositivity and T‐cell senescence predict increased cardiovascular mortality in octogenarians: results from the Newcastle 85+ study

open access: yesAging Cell, 2015
Although chronic infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) is known to drive T lymphocytes toward a senescent phenotype, it remains controversial whether and how CMV can cause coronary heart disease (CHD).

Spontaneous Helical Alignment of Smooth Muscle Cells to Form a Medial Layer for Engineered Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Spontaneous helical alignment of smooth muscle cells is induced within resistance‐vessel‐sized channels patterned within a hydrogel. The extent of the cells’ orientation angle is dependent on the presence and composition of ECM proteins lining the channel wall and cell seeding density.

Review of Antiviral Effects of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. and Its Active Component, Glycyrrhizin

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Plants, 2007
Background: Licorice (Glycyrrhiza sp.) belongs to family of Leguminosae. A number of components have been isolated from licorice, including triterpene saponins, flavonoids, isoflavonoides, chalcones and various other substances.

Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) Reactivation in the Mammary Gland Induces a Proinflammatory Cytokine Shift in Breast Milk

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
A locally restricted human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) reactivation in the mammary gland commonly occurs in nearly every IgG-seropositive breastfeeding mother.
