LRP4+ Astrocytes: A Unique Subpopulation Crucial for Blood Vessel Maintenance and Function in the Somatosensory Cortex of Normal and 5xFAD Mice

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 2, February 2026.
Lrp4+ astrocytes, uniquely vessel‐associated and GFAP−, are enriched in the pia. They support laminin‐α5+ basement membrane assembly and regulate vessel diameter and blood flow. They are reduced in 5xFAD brains, and their ablation worsens both vascular and Aβ pathology.
