Laser polishing of tool steel with CO2 laser and high-power diode laser
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2010Abstract This paper presents the effect of the laser-polishing process applied to a milled and EDMed surface of DIN 1.2379 tool steel commonly used in the die and mold industry. The martensitic structure of this type of steel (showing hardness values up to 62 HRC) makes the polishing operation extremely difficult. At present polishing must be carried

Various authors have reported more effective fluoridation from the use of lasers combined with topical fluoride than from conventional topical fluoridation. Besides the beneficial effect of lasers in reducing the acid solubility of an enamel surface, they can also increase the uptake of fluoride. The study objectives were to compare the action of CO(2)

Characterization of CO2 and diode laser welding of high carbon steels
Journal of Laser Applications, 1999Deep penetration welding with a high power CO2 and diode laser may offer an attractive means to join metal for certain applications, for instance: welding car drive shafts and gear plant. The rapid cooling rate of laser welding results in high hardness discontinuities across the welded joint; however, this leads to brittle weld and fatigue failure.

Diode laser spectroscopy of CO2 at 790nm
Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2007Absorption lines of 12C^16O_2 have been examined by using a tunable diode laser spectrometer in the region around 12670cm^-1 (790nm). The spectrometer sources are commercially available double heterostructure InGaAlAs tunable diode lasers (TDLs) operating in the "free-running" mode, which allowed the detection of the line positions within 0.01cm^-1 ...
