Optimization of a portable NIR device for the optical supervision of milk coagulation process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The coagulation of milk is the fundamental process in cheese-making, which is based on a gel formation as consequence of physicochemical changes taking place in the casein micelles.

Post-heparin phospholipase and fatty acid transesterification in human plasma

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1965
The incubation of post-heparin plasma and egg phosphatidyl ethanolamine in the presence of methanol, ethanol, or glycerol resulted in the synthesis of fatty acid esters of these alcohols.

An Anticoagulant Coating Based on a Block Phosphocholine Copolymer for Potential Applications in Blood Contact Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Anticoagulant properties are critical for blood‐compatible materials, and anticoagulant coatings are a common key issue for blood‐contacting medical devices. In this study, a block copolymer poly(2‐methacrylenoxyethyl phosphocholine‐b‐glycidyl) (PMPC‐b‐GMA) is synthesized, using reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) and

Current Advances of Antibacterial Biomaterials for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Effective treatment of infectious bone defects requires not only robust bone regeneration, but also the elimination of bacterial infection. This review highlights current cutting‐edge concepts and innovations in synthetic bone repair biomaterials and antibacterial bone repair materials, aiming to promote clinical translation and inspire broader ...

Antibodies Against β2-Glycoprotein I Complexed With an Oxidised Lipoprotein Relate to Intima Thickening of Carotid Arteries in Primary Antiphospholipid Syndrome

open access: yesClinical and Developmental Immunology, 2006
To explore whether antibodies against β2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI) complexed to 7-ketocholesteryl-9-carboxynonanoate (oxLig-1) and to oxidised low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) relate to paraoxonase activity (PONa) and/or intima media thickness (IMT) of ...

Smoothness of moments of the solutions of discrete coagulation equations with diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this paper, we establish smoothness of moments of the solutions of discrete coagulation-diffusion systems. As key assumptions, we suppose that the coagulation coefficients grow at most sub-linearly and that the diffusion coefficients converge towards a strictly positive limit (those conditions also imply the existence of global weak solutions and ...

Nanostructured 316L Stainless Steel Stent Surfaces Improve Corrosion Resistance, and Enhance Endothelization and Hemocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of nanostructured surface modification on corrosion resistance, HUVEC functions, and platelet interactions of 316L SS for cardiovascular stents. Nanostructured surfaces enhanced HUVEC proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis‐related gene expression while reducing platelet adhesion and hemolysis.

The effect of phosphatidyl choline on the degradation of phosphatidyl ethanolamine by the phospholipase of post-heparin plasma or snake venom

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1964
The degradation of phosphatidyl ethanolamine by human post-heparin plasma phospholipase is not significantly affected by phosphatidyl choline added to the assay system as an aqueous emulsion. However, when the two phospholipids are combined in chloroform–
