UV-Cured Antibacterial Hydrogels Based on PEG and Monodisperse Heterofunctional Bis-MPA Dendrimers

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Bacterial infections are one of the major threats to human health due to the raising crisis of antibiotic resistance. Herein, second generation antibacterial heterofunctional dendrimers based on 2,2-bis(methylol)propionic acid were synthesized.

Study on electro-optic noise in crystalline coatings toward future gravitational wave detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Thermal noise in high-reflectivity mirror coatings is a limiting factor in ground-based gravitational wave detectors. Reducing this coating thermal noise improves the sensitivity of detectors and enriches the scientific outcome of observing runs. Crystalline gallium arsenide and aluminum-alloyed gallium arsenide (referred to as AlGaAs) coatings are ...

Ammonia sensing using lossy mode resonances in a tapered optical fibre coated with porphyrin-incorporated titanium dioxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The development of an ammonia sensor, formed by the deposition of a functionalised titanium dioxide film onto a tapered optical fibre is presented. The titanium dioxide coating allows the coupling of light from the fundamental core mode to a lossy mode ...

Semi-analytical technique for the design of disordered coatings with tailored optical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Disordered media coatings are finding increasing use in applications such as day-time radiative cooling paints and solar thermal absorber plate coatings which require tailored optical properties over a broad spectrum ranging from visible to far-IR wavelengths.

The protective properties of thin alumina films deposited by metal organic chemical vapour deposition against high-temperature corrosion of stainless steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Coatings of Al2O3 were deposited on Incoloy 800H and AISI 304 by means of metal organic chemical vapour deposition. Diffusion limitation was the rate-determining step above 420 °C. Below this temperature, the activation energy of the reaction appeared to

Room temperature synthesis and phase transformation of lithium phosphate Li3PO4 as solid electrolyte

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2021
We successfully prepared single-phase sample of the low-temperature β-type form of lithium phosphate Li3PO4 by a stoichiometric mixing of LiOH solution and NH4H2PO4 powder at room temperature without heating.

Development of a friction energy capacity approach to predict the surface coating endurance under complex oscillating sliding conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the case of surface coatings application it is crucial to establish when the substrate is reached to prevent catastrophic consequences. In this study, a model based on local dissipated energy is developed and related to the friction process.

Impacts of Atomistic Coating on Thermal Conductivity of Germanium Nanowires [PDF]

open access: yesNano Lett. 12, 2826 (2012), 2012
By using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, we demonstrated that thermal conductivity of Germanium nanowires can be reduced more than 25% at room temperature by atomistic coating. There is a critical coating thickness beyond which thermal conductivity of the coated nanowire is larger than that of the host nanowire.

Coating and Pharmacokinetic Evaluation of Air Spray Coated Drug Coated Balloons [PDF]

open access: yesCardiovascular Engineering and Technology, 2018
Drug coated balloons (DCB) are becoming the standard-care treatment for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). DCB use excipients to transfer and retain anti-proliferative drugs, such as paclitaxel. Excipients thus play a vital role in the design and function of DCB, however methods to coat balloons with excipients and anti-proliferative drugs remain ...
