Magnetron-Sputtered Amorphous Carbon Films for Aluminium Proton-Exchange-Membrane Fuel Cell Bipolar Plates

open access: yesPhyschem
Aluminium is an attractive material for proton-exchange-membrane fuel cell bipolar plates as it has a much lower density than steel and is easier to form than both steel and graphite.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Machine learning analysis of a large set of homopolymers to predict glass transition temperatures

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry
Glass transition temperature of polymers, Tg, is an important thermophysical property, which sometimes can be difficult to measure experimentally. In this regard, data-driven machine learning approaches are important alternatives to assess Tg values, in ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Comparative evaluation of machine Learning-based QSPR techniques for predicting polymer glass transition temperature

open access: yesDiscover Materials
The glass transition temperature ( $$\:{T}_{g}$$ ) is a pivotal parameter for amorphous polymers, influencing their behavior under different thermal properties.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
