The use of Highly Ionized Pulsed Plasmas for the Synthesis of Advanced Thin Films and Nanoparticles

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
Pulsed plasma processes open up the possibility of using very high plasma densities and modulated deposition in the synthesis of thin films and nanoparticles.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effects of silicon doping on low-friction and high-hardness diamond-like carbon coating via filtered cathodic vacuum arc deposition

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In this study, silicon (Si) was doped on a tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) coating and the tribological characteristics of the resulting Si-doped diamond-like carbon (DLC; a-C:Si:H) were investigated against a SUJ2 ball.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Investigation of Corrosion Properties and Composition of the Surface Formed on AISI 321 Stainless Steel by Ion Implantation

open access: yesMetals, 2023
In this work, the corrosion resistance of AISI 321 stainless steel is increased through. the two-stage implantation of oxygen ions and of both aluminum and boron ions together. During ion implantation, a modified layer with a thickness of about 200 nm is

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Smart Energy–Harvesting Coating for Moisture–Droplets Based on Ionic Diodes and Transistor–Like Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The growing demand for distributed sustainable energy solutions has driven innovations in atmospheric moisture and droplet‐enabled electricity generation. This study introduces a dual‐mode moisture‐droplet energy‐harvesting coating (MDEC) that integrates

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the
