Target erosion process during broad ion beam sputtering using 3D modeling of ion trajectories

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
Understanding the distribution of particles sputtered from a target requires an appreciation of how ions impinge on the target. In pursuit of this goal, a fully three-dimensional model of the ion trajectories in a broad ion beam, assuming full space ...

Investigation to identify paint coatings resistive to microorganism growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
All selected coatings contain nutrients that support microbial growth and survival. Incorporation of microbiocidal agents into coatings more susceptible to attack is recommended for improved inhibition of microorganism growth and for increased protection

Properties and Performance of High-Purity Thermal Barrier Coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
It has been found that reducing the level of impurity oxides (particularly SiO2 and Al2O3) in 7YSZ, from about 0.2 wt% to below 0.1 wt% raises the sintering resistance and the phase stability of plasma-sprayed coatings.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Preparation of highly wear-resistant non-skid deck coating and analysis of its non-skid wear resistance

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2020
[Objectives] In order to solve the wear problem of ship decks caused by major equipment, a new highly wear-resistant anti-skid deck coating is developed.[Methods] The coating is mainly composed of a primer,non-skid layer and topcoat.

Coefficient of thermal expansion of nanostructured tungsten based coatings assessed by thermally induced substrate curvature method

open access: yes, 2017
The in plane coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and the residual stress of nanostructured W based coatings are extensively investigated. The CTE and the residual stresses are derived by means of an optimized ad-hoc developed experimental setup based ...

Al-Pt MOCVD coatings for the protection of Ti6242 alloy against oxidation at elevated temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Results on isothermal oxidation at 873K for 90 h of Al-Pt coatings on Ti6242 coupons are reported. These coatings were obtained by low temperature, low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition using Me3(MeCp)Pt(VI) and dimethylethylamine alane ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Chemical solution deposition of functional ceramic coatings using ink-jet printing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper discusses the development of environmentally-friendly precursor inks suited for ink-jet printing of functional ceramic coatings. We synthesized superconducting materials, SrTiO3 thin films for coated conductor applications and transparent TiO2

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
