Blood Codeine Concentrations in Fatalities Associated with Codeine

Clinical Toxicology, 1975
The toxicologic findings in eight cases of death due primarily to codeine overdosage are presented. Blood codeine concentrations ranged from 1.4 to 5.6 mug/ml as determined by gas-liquid chromatography. Morphine was found in only two of the blood samples, at concentrations of 0.2 and 0.6 mug/ml, and may have resulted from heroin usage rather than ...

The pharmacogenetics of codeine hypoalgesia

Pharmacogenetics, 1995
Codeine is an old drug that is still widely used to treat mild and moderate pain. It is mainly metabolised by glucuronidation, but minor pathways are N-demethylation to norcodeine and O-demethylation to morphine. The latter pathway depends on the genetically polymorphic CYP2D6 which is absent in 7% of the white population (PM) and present in the ...

Fenoprofen and codeine analgesia

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1981
Studies were conducted on postpartum and postoperative patients to estimate the dose-response line of fenoprofen and to contrast it with codeine and placebo. The postpartum patients included women with episiotomy pain and with uterine cramping. This mix allowed contrast of ability of the various pain models to distinguish codeine from placebo.
