Chemotactic attraction of Lumbricus terrestris coelomocytes to foreign tissue

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 1979
Abstract Coelomocytes of the earthworm, Lumbricus terrestris , respond by directional migration in vitro to bacterial and foreign tissue attractants. The two species of bacteria tested, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Aeromonas hydrophila , attract coelomocytes in direct proportion to bacterial concentrations. Body wall tissues from the earthworms

The Coelomocytes of Holothuria leucospilota

Journal of Cell Science, 1958
ABSTRACT Morula-shaped cells, structurally similar to fibre-producing cells occurring in the blood and test of an ascidian, Pyura stolonifera, have been found in the coelomic fluid and Cuvierian tubules of Holothuria leucospilota. The morula-shaped cells of the holothurian are formed from primitive amoebocytes.

The Coelomocytes of Asteroid Echinoderms

1984
The cellular elements found in the coelomic fluid of asteroid echinoderms (sea stars or starfishes) have been the subject of numerous studies for almost a century. These cells, of which there are several types (Table 1), are collectively referred to as coelomo-cytes or coelomic corpuscles. They play diverse functional roles in the organism.

DOPA oxidation by Holothuria polii coelomocyte lysate

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1991
Abstract Phenoloxidase activity was demonstrated in coelomocyte lysate (CL) from Holothuria polii , but not in cell free coelomic fluid. Oxidation of DOPA to dopachrome was measured photometrically after activation of CL with trypsin or chymotrypsin. Chymotrypsin activation of CL was inhibited by serine protease inhibitors such as STI and PMSF.

The Coelomocytes of Nereid Polychaetes

1974
The coelomic fluids of most polychaetes, or marine annelids, contain numerous mobile cells which have phagocytic abilities. Many investigators have observed that coelomocytes of several species of polychaetes take up foreign matter and have suggested that they probably remove particulate wastes. This applies equally to nereids (Dehorne, 1922a,b; Romieu,
