Cogging Torque Reduction Techniques for Spoke-type IPMSM

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
A spoke-type interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is extending its tentacles in industrial arena due to good flux-weakening capability and high power density. In many of the application, high strength of permanent magnet causes the undesirable effects of high cogging torque that can aggravate performance of the motor. High cogging torque

Magnetic Field Analysis of Multi‐Segment Modulated Pole Motors Based on the Air Gap Domain Multi‐Harmonic Method

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A subdomain analytical model for multi‐harmonic air‐gap subdomains is proposed to predict motor magnetic fields containing complex harmonic components. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that this model effectively reduces the matrix dimension during analytical computation, resulting in lower computational time costs for the same harmonic order while ...

Investigation of Additional Radial Air Gaps on Cogging Torque in Modular Permanent Magnet Machines Based on Taguchi Method

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper investigates the influence of randomly distributed additional air gaps (AAGs) between stator teeth and back-iron on cogging torque in 12-slot/10-pole modular permanent magnet machines by using Taguchi method.

Force Analysis and Torque Production of the Doubly Salient Parallel Path Magnetic Machine

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper presents an in‐depth mathematical analysis of torque and force production mechanisms in the Doubly Salient Parallel Path Magnetic Motor (DS‐PPMM). Electromagnetic force distribution, torque ripple characteristics and the contributions of magnetic salience are analysed through analytical modelling and verified by finite element analysis.

Suppression of DC Winding Current Harmonics in Wound‐Field Machines Under PWM Excitation by Using Active Voltage Injection and LC Low‐Pass Filters

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
In this paper, the LC low‐pass filter is designed and connected in parallel with the DC winding of the MFMWF machine to suppress the high‐frequency sideband harmonics in the DC winding current for the first time. The suppression effect is validated by experiments.
