Young children's perspectives of time: New directions for co‐constructing understandings of quality in ECEC

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Children's relationship with time in preschools is an under‐researched area. Young children rarely know how to measure time using a clock, but their experiences of time may contribute to understanding children's well‐being and debates about quality in preschools.

Developing SCORM Learning Objects based on Information Architecture and on Cognitive Flexibility Theory

open access: yes, 2006

Material‐Based Intelligence: Autonomous Adaptation and Embodied Computation in Physical Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This perspective formulates a unifying framework for Material‐Based Intelligence (MBI), defining the physical requirements for materials to achieve embodied action, active memory and embodied information processing through intrinsic nonequilibrium dynamics. The design of intelligent materials often draws parallels with the complex adaptive behaviors of

The brain selectively allocates energy to functional brain networks under cognitive control

open access: yesScientific Reports
Network energy has been conceptualized based on structural balance theory in the physics of complex networks. We utilized this framework to assess the energy of functional brain networks under cognitive control and to understand how energy is allocated ...

Driver Behavior Modeling with Subjective Risk‐Driven Inverse Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A subjective risk‐driven inverse reinforcement learning framework is proposed to model driver decision‐making. It infers drivers' risk perception and risk tolerance from driving data. A learnable risk threshold is used to regulate decisions, enabling interpretable and human‐like driving behavior decisions.

How does the Kids SIPsmartER program impact the sugar‐sweetened beverage intake of students: An investigation beyond total treatment effect in randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study develops and empirically estimates a structural framework to decompose the causal pathways of multilevel behavioral interventions targeting adolescent health behaviors. We apply this framework to the Kids SIPsmartER (KSS) program, a 6‐month, school‐based intervention evaluated through a clustered randomized controlled trial in rural

Energy Pattern Congruence Theory (EPCT): A Neuroenergetic Framework for Understanding Cognitive Flexibility

open access: yes
This paper introduces the Energy Pattern Congruence Theory (EPCT) — a novel framework proposing that human cognitive flexibility is fundamentally driven by dynamic neural energy availability. The theory integrates recent findings in brain metabolism, large-scale network dynamics (DMN–ECN interactions), and cognitive pattern formation to explain how low-
