Theory of Mind and Preference Learning at the Interface of Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, and AI: A Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Artificial Intelligence, 2022
Theory of Mind (ToM)—the ability of the human mind to attribute mental states to others—is a key component of human cognition. In order to understand other people's mental states or viewpoint and to have successful interactions with others within social ...

Cognitive Flexibility, Theory of Mind, and Hyperactivity/Inattention [PDF]

open access: yesChild Development Research, 2014
The present study analyzed the concurrent and longitudinal relations among cognitive flexibility, theory of mind, and hyperactivity/inattention in a sample of 70 typically developing children (M age = 61.4 months, SD = 8.3 months). Mothers and teachers reported on children’s hyperactivity/inattention using the strengths and difficulties questionnaire ...

Electrophysiological Correlates of Basic and Higher Order Cognitive and Affective Theory of Mind Processing in Emerging and Early Adulthood—An Explorative Event-Related Potentials Study to Investigate First-, Second-, and Third-Order Theory of Mind Processing Based on Visual Cues

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2020
Attributing mental states to others in social interactions [Theory of Mind (ToM)] often depends on visual social cues like eye gaze or mimic. This study presents an event-related potentials task (Brainy-ERP) that was developed in order to investigate the

Scale-resolved analysis of brain functional connectivity networks with spectral entropy

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2020
Functional connectivity is derived from inter-regional correlations in spontaneous fluctuations of brain activity, and can be represented in terms of complete graphs with continuous (real-valued) edges.

Religion som strømme i en flydende bevidsthed

open access: yesReligionsvidenskabeligt Tidsskrift, 2005
Archaeologist Steven Mithen claims to show how and why the human mind developed into a culturally capable entity. By adopting the notion of the ontogenetic recapitulation of phylogeny, Mithen integrates several different perspectives on developmental ...

Training social cognition: From imitation to Theory of Mind

open access: yesCognition, 2012
Evidence for successful socio-cognitive training in typical adults is rare. This study attempted to improve Theory of Mind (ToM) and visual perspective taking in healthy adults by training participants to either imitate or to inhibit imitation. Twenty-four hours after training, all participants completed tests of ToM and visual perspective taking.

System 1 vs. System 2 Thinking

open access: yesPsych, 2023
This paper explores the dual-processing hypothesis of the mind, Systems 1 and 2, by examining debates between cognitive and evolutionary psychologists. I structure the discussion in a back-and-forth manner to emphasize the differences. I show that, while

Brain gray matter morphometry relates to onset age of bilingualism and theory of mind in young and older adults

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lifelong bilingualism may result in neural reserve against decline not only in the general cognitive domain, but also in social cognitive functioning. In this study, we show the brain structural correlates that are associated with second language age of ...
