Association of Japanese cedar pollen sensitization in children with Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus sensitization and maternal sensitization: Insights from the Yamanashi adjunct study within the Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS)

open access: yesAllergology International
Background: In recent years, the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) in Japanese children has increased significantly. Multiple sensitization and genetic factors are associated with the development of AR, and moreover, multiply sensitized children are ...

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Racial and gender wage differentials in South Africa: What can cohort data tell? [PDF]

open access: yes
High poverty rates as well as a very unequal distribution of income and wealth are distinctive features of post Apartheid South Africa. Studies analysing the extent of income inequality show that since the end of Apartheid the distribution of income has ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Harnessing Increased Client Participation with Cohort-Parallel Federated Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Federated learning (FL) is a machine learning approach where nodes collaboratively train a global model. As more nodes participate in a round of FL, the effectiveness of individual model updates by nodes also diminishes. In this study, we increase the effectiveness of client updates by dividing the network into smaller partitions, or cohorts.
