Coiling Instability of Multilamellar Membrane Tubes with Anchored Polymers

open access: yes, 2000
We study experimentally a coiling instability of cylindrical multilamellar stacks of phospholipid membranes, induced by polymers with hydrophobic anchors grafted along their hydrophilic backbone.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Correlation analysis between coiling tension and the sleeve's hoop stress

open access: yesMechanics & Industry
The coiling process, crucial for winding long sheets of consistent thickness, often encounters challenges due to deformation induced by pressure and frictional forces on the inner mandrel and sleeve.

Comparison of angiographic outcomes and complication rates of WEB embolization and coiling for treatment of unruptured basilar tip aneurysms

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Endovascular coiling represents the standard treatment for basilar tip aneurysms. Some of these aneurysms are not amenable to conventional coiling due to a complex aneurysm geometry, hence, novel devices such as the Woven Endobridge (WEB) have been ...

The Nanostructure of Alkyl-Sulfonate Ionic Liquids: Two 1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium Alkyl-Sulfonate Homologous Series

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The functionalization of polymers with sulfonate groups has many important uses, ranging from biomedical applications to detergency properties used in oil-recovery processes. In this work, several ionic liquids (ILs) combining 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Endovascular Management of Cerebral Aneurysm: The Recent Trends

open access: yesIndian Journal of Neurosurgery, 2018
Cerebral aneurysm rupture is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with hemorrhagic stroke. Surgical clipping and endovascular coiling are the mainstay of management for securing the aneurysm.

Foraminiferal test abnormalities in the western Baltic Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Abnormal tests were commonly found in recent benthic foraminiferal assemblages in two fjords of the Kiel Bay, the western Baltic Sea. We assessed 18 different types of abnormalities, which were classified into five groups: chamber, apertural, umbilical ...

Predicting oligomerization states of coiled coils [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Science, 1995
AbstractAn algorithm based on the profile method was developed that faithfully distinguishes between the amino acid sequences of dimeric and trimeric coiled coils. Normalized sequence profiles derived from nonhomologous, two‐and three‐stranded, coiled‐coil sequences with unambiguous registers were used to assign dimer and trimer propensities to test ...
