Gout and NLRP3 inflammasome biology
This review describes the three broad stages of acute inflammation in the context of gout: initiation, leucocyte mobilisation, and self‐resolution. A typical case of a gout flare is presented. The role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in acute monosodium urate crystal‐induced inflammation is reviewed in detail.

Abstract PSBO is essential for the assembly of the oxygen‐evolving complex in plants and green algae. Despite its importance, we lack essential information on its lifetime and how it depends on the environmental conditions. We have generated nitrate‐inducible PSBO amiRNA lines in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

Mechanical deformation of monocytic THP-1 cells : occurrence of two seqential phases with differential sensitivity to metabolic inhibitors [PDF]
Blood leukocytes can exhibit extensive morphological changes during their passage through small capillary vessels. The human monocytic THP-1 cell line was used to explore the metabolic dependence of these shape changes. Cells were aspirated into micropipettes for determination of the rate of protrusion formation.

Background Colchicine has been used in conditions such as periodic febrile illness, acute pericarditis, and gouty arthritis, all having a common hyperinflammatory response as seen in moderate to severe forms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Nonconventional Techniques in Plant Alkaloid Extraction: A Decade of Progress (2014–2023)
This figure seeks to represent the evolution of the different unconventional approaches that were adopted for the extraction of plant‐derived alkaloids during the decade from 2014 to 2023. ABSTRACT Plant metabolism encompasses primary and secondary pathways, with secondary metabolism yielding diverse natural products crucial for plant adaptation and ...

Colchicine to Weather the Cytokine Storm in Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19
The repurposing of colchicine for the treatment of COVID-19 was suggested based in its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties. We performed a single-center propensity score matched cohort study, including all consecutive COVID-19 ...

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Cardiovascular Adverse Events
Abstract In the last years, we assisted to a tremendous increase in therapeutic options for the management of cancers, with immunotherapy at the forefront of this innovation. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been developed to enhance the activity of the immune system against cancer cells (1) and the number of approvals for ICIs has rapidly ...

New anticancer therapies with potential cardiovascular side effects are continuously being introduced into clinical practice, with new and often unexpected toxicities becoming apparent only after clinical introduction. These unknown toxicities should be identified and understood beforehand to better prepare patients and physicians, enabling the ...
