Metabolic changes in Avena sativa crowns recovering from freezing.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Extensive research has been conducted on cold acclimation and freezing tolerance of fall-sown cereal plants due to their economic importance; however, little has been reported on the biochemical changes occurring over time after the freezing conditions ...

Cold-air pools as microrefugia for ecosystem functions in the face of climate change

open access: yes, 2022
Cold-air pooling is a global phenomenon that frequently sustains low temperatures in sheltered, low-lying depressions and valleys and drives other key environmental conditions, such as soil temperature, soil moisture, vapor pressure deficit, frost ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

A Parameterization for Cloud Organization and Propagation by Evaporation‐Driven Cold Pool Edges

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
When the negatively buoyant air in the cloud downdrafts reaches the surface, it spreads out horizontally, producing cold pools. A cold pool can trigger new convective cells. However, when combined with the ambient vertical wind shear, it can also connect

Topographic Influence on Cold-Air Pool Formation: A Case Study of the Eiras Valley (Coimbra, Portugal)

open access: yesAtmosphere
Topography plays a crucial role in shaping local urban microclimates and can drive the formation of cold-air pools in valley bottoms. This study examines the Eiras Valley (Coimbra, Portugal), a rapidly growing peri-urban area, to identify the conditions ...

Microphysical Influences on cold pools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Downdrafts extending from within convective clouds to the ground can produce cold pools, regions of air at the surface cooled by melting or sublimating ice and/or evaporation of rain within the downdrafts.

Convective cold pools in long-term boundary layer mast observations

open access: yes, 2021
Cold pools are mesoscale features that are key for understanding the organization of convection, but are insufficiently captured in conventional observations.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Cold Pool‐Land Surface Interactions in a Dry Continental Environment

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2018
Cold pools influence convective initiation and organization, dust lofting, and boundary layer properties, but little is known about their interactions with the land surface, particularly in dry continental environments.
