Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Assessment of valley cold pools and clouds in a very high-resolution numerical weather prediction model [PDF]
The formation of cold air pools in valleys under stable conditions represents an important challenge for numerical weather prediction (NWP). The challenge is increased when the valleys that dominate cold pool formation are on scales unresolved by NWP ...

Preimpoundment Ichthyofaunal Survey of the Piney Creek Watershed, Izard County, Arkansas [PDF]
Piney Creek is a clear medium-size tributary of White River in a region of the Ozarks that is undergoing rapid environmental change. Piney Creek is characterized by a very diverse ichthyofauna, although increased sedimentation due to poor agricultural ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

What levels of estrogen hormones can be found in swimming pool water?
Estrogens are a group of sex hormones. The entry of this hormone into the human body causes premature puberty, breast, and uterus cancer, etc. Due to sustainability, harmful effects, and its skin absorption, the identification of this hormone in swimming

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Longer thaw seasons increase nitrogen availability for leaching during fall in tundra soils [PDF]
Climate change has resulted in warmer soil temperatures, earlier spring thaw and later fall freeze-up, resulting in warmer soil temperatures and thawing of permafrost in tundra regions.

High resolution modelling of valley cold pools
AbstractThe Met Office Unified Model has been adapted to run with a 100 m horizontal grid length for a region of complex terrain whose valleys are too narrow to be represented in the operational forecast (1.5 km grid length) model. Forecasts of temperatures are compared with observations from the COLd air Pooling EXperiment.

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
