Cosmic-ray physics with IceCube

open access: yes, 2011
IceCube as a three-dimensional air-shower array covers an energy range of the cosmic-ray spectrum from below 1 PeV to approximately 1 EeV. This talk is a brief review of the function and goals of IceTop, the surface component of the IceCube neutrino ...

Treatment Decision‐Making Roles and Preferences Among Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Decision‐making (DM) dynamics between adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer, parents, and oncologists remain underexplored in diverse populations. We examined cancer treatment DM preferences among an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse group of AYAs and their parents.

Quark mass dependence of pseudoscalar masses and decay constants on a lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Our previous calculations of the sea- and valence-quark mass dependence of the pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants is repeated on a 16^3x32 lattice which allows for a better determination of the quantities in question.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Maternal care interventions for pregnant women with diabetes: A systematic review of antenatal education, diet, physical activity, and weight management

open access: yesPregnancy
Introduction Pregnant women with diabetes and their babies are at increased risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Non‐pharmacological interventions, such as diabetes education, dietary and physical activity advice, and weight management, may ...

Associations between red blood cell variants and malaria among children and adults from three areas of Uganda: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2020
Background Multiple red blood cell (RBC) variants appear to offer protection against the most severe forms of Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Associations between these variants and uncomplicated malaria are less clear.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

COVID-19 Whole-Genome Resequencing with Redundant Tiling PCR and Subtract-Based Amplicon Normalization Successfully Characterized SARS-CoV-2 Variants in Clinical Specimens

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Perspectives on Infectious Diseases, 2022
With an increasing number of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) sequences gathered worldwide, we recognize that deletion mutants and nucleotide substitutions that may affect whole-genome sequencing are accumulating.

Pentaquarks in high-energy colliding experiments: perspectives from HERA

open access: yes, 2005
Several issues related to pentaquark searches relevant for current and future high-energy colliding experiments are discussed. We make an attempt to explain why pentaquark candidates are not seen by some experiments, and what makes the HERA experiments ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
