Ablation of integrin-mediated cell–collagen communication alleviates fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Objectives Activation of fibroblasts is a hallmark of fibrotic processes. Besides cytokines and growth factors, fibroblasts are regulated by the extracellular matrix environment through receptors such as integrins, which transduce biochemical and ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The role of collagen in joint disorders: Applications in orthopedics, rheumatology, and sports medicine

open access: yesQuality in Sport
Joint diseases are prevalent in orthopedic, rheumatological, and sports medicine fields, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. Collagen, a primary component of connective tissues, has emerged as a therapeutic agent for these conditions ...

Matrix Metalloproteinase Mediated Type I Collagen Degradation — An Independent Risk Factor for Mortality in Women

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2015
Chronic fibro-proliferative diseases are associated with nearly 45% of all deaths in the developed world. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) mediated remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role in disease development.

Collagen VIII in vascular diseases. [PDF]

open access: yes
Collagens have dual functions in the extracellular matrix (ECM), acting as both structural components and signaling molecules in matricellular communication.

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected

Weakening the nuclear envelope: Lamin B receptor in melanoma metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LBR‐driven nuclear fragility supports melanoma invasion. A: Melanocyte presents low LBR (Lamin B Receptor) levels, maintaining nuclear integrity and lamina‐chromatin tethering. B: During malignant progression, upregulation of LBR clusters at the INM (Inner Nuclear Membrane) during confined migration causes local lamina weakening and cholesterol ...

Endocytic recycling is central to circadian collagen fibrillogenesis and disrupted in fibrosis

open access: yeseLife
Collagen-I fibrillogenesis is crucial to health and development, where dysregulation is a hallmark of fibroproliferative diseases. Here, we show that collagen-I fibril assembly required a functional endocytic system that recycles collagen-I to assemble ...

Blue sclera and osteogenesis imperfecta - A rare association

open access: yesKerala Journal of Ophthalmology, 2017
The sclera is a dense poorly vascularized connective tissue structure composed of Types I, III, IV, V, VI, and VIII collagen. The characteristic blue sclera is caused by thinness and transparency of the collagen fibers of the sclera that allow ...

Collagen of Dupuytren's Disease

open access: yesClinical Science, 1977
1. In contrast to collagen from the aponeurosis of normal adult subjects, the nodules, contractures and apparently unaffected aponeurosis from patients with Dupuytren's disease contained substantial amounts of type III collagen. 2. The presence of type III collagen supports the previous proposal that the initial response to injury is the
