Thin-Capped Atheromata With Reduced Collagen Content in Pigs Develop in Coronary Arterial Regions Exposed to Persistently Low Endothelial Shear Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objective—The mechanisms promoting the focal formation of rupture-prone coronary plaques in vivo remain incompletely understood. This study tested the hypothesis that coronary regions exposed to low endothelial shear stress (ESS) favor subsequent ...

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

The effect of different concentrations of Liberase HI used in a non automated method for human adult pancreatic islet isolation [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2010
Liberase HI has many advantages over traditional collagenases. Liberase performs the rapid dissociation of human pancreata and allows for the preservation of the morphological and functional integrity of isolated islets.

Quantitative cross-linking via engineered cysteines to study inter-domain interactions in bacterial collagenases

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2023
Summary: Inter-domain movements act as important activity modulators in multi-domain proteins. Here, we present a protocol for inter-domain cross-linking via engineered cysteines.

Microporous Microgel Assemblies Facilitating the Recruitment and Osteogenic Differentiation of Progenitor Cells for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
There is a significant need for biomaterials with well‐defined stability and bioactivity to support tissue regeneration. In this study, we developed a tunable microgel platform that enables the decoupling of stiffness from porosity, thereby promoting bone regeneration.

Matrix metalloproteinases-2,-3,-7,-9 and-10, but not MMP-11, are differentially expressed in normal, benign tumorigenic and malignant human keratinocyte cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In order to investigate the correlations between constitutive proteinase expression and the degree of tumorigenicity of cancer cells we have studied a model system of three keratinocyte cell lines.

Synthetic Nanobiology Actuated Lipometabolic Cell Factory for Autologous Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
FA plays a crucial role in the interaction between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment, especially for the immune response. A biocatalytic immunoenhancement strategy is developed to boost antitumor immunity by FA metabolic orientation to ceramide. Through the design of this delicate catalytic immunoenhancement strategy, the synthetic nanobiology

Biochemical Comparison Between Clostridium Hystoliticum Collagenases G and H obtained by DNA Recombinant and Extractive Procedures

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2012
One of the main success practices in cell therapy is the transplantation of allogeneic pancreatic islets cells in patients with type 1 diabetes. However, at the moment less than 50 % of procedures are successfully completed; this is because the procedure
