Hyperosmolarity of the renal medulla is essential for urine concentration and water homeostasis. However, how renal medullary collecting duct (MCD) cells survive and function under harsh hyperosmotic stress remains unclear.

Identification of an N-terminal glycogen synthase kinase 3 phosphorylation site which regulates the functional localisation of polycystin-2 in vivo and in vitro [PDF]
PKD2 is mutated in 15% of patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Polycystin-2 (PC2), the PKD2 protein, is a nonselective Ca2 + -permeable cation channel which may function at the cell surface and ER. Nevertheless, the factors

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Distal Urogenital Anatomy of Male Southern Coal Skinks, Plestiodon anthracinus pluvialis (Reptilia: Scincidae) [PDF]
I investigated the morphology and histology of the distal urogenital anatomy of male southern coal skinks (Plestiodon anthracinus pluvialis) from reproductively active individuals collected in Arkansas in order to provide comparative information with ...

Sarcomatoid Collecting Duct Carcinoma
Abstract Background.—Collecting duct carcinoma has recently been recognized as a distinct entity among renal cell carcinomas and shows aggressive clinical behavior. Design.—A fatal case of collecting duct carcinoma with sarcomatoid features in an 80-year-old man is described, and the results of immunohistochemistry and ...

Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

A coordinated progression of progenitor cell states initiates urinary tract development
Nephric duct (ND)-derived ureteric buds (UB) form the kidney collecting duct system, while ureteric tips promote nephron formation. Here the authors use single-cell RNA-seq and introduce Cluster RNA-seq to identify four progenitor populations in ...

Glucocorticoid Receptor Maintains Vasopressin Responses in Kidney Collecting Duct Cells
Water permeability of the kidney collecting ducts is regulated in part by the amount of the molecular water channel protein aquaporin-2 (AQP2), whose expression, in turn, is regulated by the pituitary peptide hormone vasopressin.
