There are two substantive points in Dr Lambert's letter. The first is that Dr Lambert says it isn't enough to say that all the reputable agencies in radiation protection use collective dose, so it should be used. It is difficult to know how to reply to this.

Dear Sir As Alan Jennings says, the intention of my note was to point at the inconsistency of favouring the LNT assumption but not accepting the consequences of that assumption. With regard to the possible alternative assumption of dose thresholds, this might seem to offer an easier way out, but this is only apparently.
