Rationale for National and Local Dose Reference Levels and Collective Effective Dose in CT

Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, 2009
This article is intended as a review of the methods of establishing dose reference levels (DRLs) in relation to computerized tomography (CT) and their role in the standardization and auditing of radiation dose in CT.CT is considered a high radiation dose examination. The potential for dose reduction resulting from the establishment of DRLs is discussed.

COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT DOSES OF “BUTOPHAN OR”

International Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The article presents the results of the use of the drug “Butofan OR” in various dosages for transovarial treatment of hatching eggs and stimulation of embryogenesis in chickens of the highly productive meat cross “Cobb 500”. Despite the fact that in general the mechanisms of embryogenesis have been studied, there remains an open question about the ...

Individual and collective doses from cosmic radiation in Ireland

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2007
This paper assesses the individual and collective doses in Ireland due to cosmic radiation. Information on the exposure to cosmic radiation at ground level is reviewed and published data on the frequency of routes flown by Irish residents is used to calculate the dose due to air travel. Occupational exposure of aircrew is also evaluated.

Collective effective dose from diagnostic radiology in Ukraine

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2015
The frequencies and effective doses for the most common X-ray diagnostic examinations in Ukraine were assessed in the frame of the European Commission (EC) Study on European Population Doses from Medical Exposure (Dose Datamed 2). The average effective doses for all radiographic procedures were estimated using the ODS-60 software (Finland).

The way forward - the interdependence of controllable dose, collective dose and threshold dose, and its consequences

Journal of Radiological Protection, 2000
Dear Sir The adoption of an individual-based philosopy in the proposed controllable-dose concept (Clarke 1999 Control of low-level radiation exposure: time for a change? J. Radiol. Prot. 19 107-15) along with the abandonment of collective dose, inherently implies the acceptance of a low-dose threshold in tumour induction - a consequence ICRP appears ...

Comment on `Collective dose: kill or cure?'

Journal of Radiological Protection, 2000
In his editorial `Collective dose: kill or cure?' John Dunster (2000 J. Radiol. Prot. 20 (1) 3-4) states that a build up of small doses from many sources could easily be prevented in the future. Based on our experience with other sources of pollution, I feel this is somewhat rash.

Chronic intravenous dosing and blood collection in the unanesthetized monkey

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1977
A procedure is described which allows chronic dosing and blood collection from awake monkeys. The procedure involves only minor surgical anesthesia and allows the same vein of the animal to be used several different times with home-cage recuperation periods intervening between sequential chronic catheterizations.

Low-Dose Data Collection and Radiation Damage in MicroED

2020
Microcrystal electron diffraction (MicroED) is a technique for structure determination that relies on the strong interaction of electrons with a minuscule, crystalline sample. While some of the electrons used to probe the crystal interact without altering the crystal, others deposit energy which changes the sample through a series of damage events.

Feasibility and safety of triple dose platelet collection by apheresis

Journal of Clinical Apheresis, 2009
AbstractBackground:Blood cell separators of the newest generation allow for the collection of high‐dose platelet concentrates. The aim of this study was to evaluate triple dose platelet collection with respect to feasibility and safety.Materials and Methods:Four hundred eighty plateletphereses were performed targeting to collect a triple platelet dose.

Principles and Application of Collective Dose in Radiation Protection

Journal of Radiological Protection, 1996
`For moderate increments above background, a linear relationship between the incremental dose and the incremental probability of a deleterious effect will be an adequate approximation' (International Commission on Radiological Protection). This, and similar statements going back over a number of years, validates the collective dose concept. Put simply,
