Advances in the FTU collective Thomson scattering system
The new collective Thomson scattering diagnostic installed on the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade device started its first operations in 2014. The ongoing experiments investigate the presence of signals synchronous with rotating tearing mode islands, possibly due to parametric decay processes, and phenomena affecting electron cyclotron beam absorption or ...

Subterahertz gyrotron developments for collective Thomson scattering in LHD [PDF]
Collective Thomson scattering (CTS) is expected to provide the spatially resolved velocity distribution functions of not only thermal and tail ions but also alpha particles resulting from fusion reactions. CTS using gyrotrons with frequency higher than the conventional ones used for plasma heating would have advantages to alleviate refraction, cutoff ...

Design of the Collective Thomson Scattering System on HL-3 tokamak [PDF]
A collective Thomson scattering (CTS) diagnostic system is being developed to measure fastion velocity distribution on HL-3 tokamak. A 140 GHz gyrotron belonging to electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) system would be used to generate probe beam ...

154 GHz collective Thomson scattering in LHD
Collective Thomson scattering (CTS) was developed by using a 154 GHz gyrotron, and the first data has been obtained. Already, 77 GHz CTS has worked successfully. However, in order to access higher density region, 154 GHz option enhances the usability that reduces the refraction effect, which deteriorates in the local measurements.

Optimization of the Collective Thomson scattering diagnostic for future operation [PDF]
Collective Thomson scattering (CTS) is a microwave diagnostic allowing measurements of a number of plasma parameters such as the bulk ion temperature, the plasma composition, drift velocities and fast ion velocity distribution function. A CTS system has been successfully installed and commissioned on the Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator. The measured

ITER Fast Ion Collective Thomson Scattering: Detailed integrated design of the collective Thomson scattering (CTS) system for ITER [PDF]
The EFDA Contract 04-1213 with Risø National Laboratory concerning a detailed integrated design of a Fast Ion Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) diagnostic for ITER was signed on 31 December 2004.In 2003 the Risø CTS group finished a feasibility study and a conceptual design of an ITER Fast Ion Collective Thomson Scattering System (Contract 01.654) [1,

On the influence of plasma turbulence on collective Thomson scattering measurements
Plasma turbulence can result in significant distortion of probing and receiving microwave beams, and this effect can modify the registered spectrum in a collective Thomson scattering (CTS) experiment. An analytical description of the CTS experiment is provided in this paper for the probing beam distortion due to the plasma edge turbulence.

A novel system for micron-scale analysis of energy deposition and response to low-dose radiation. [PDF]
Abstract Background Micrometer‐scale evaluation of energy deposition is important for radiation protection and therapy as well as for advancing knowledge of responses to radiation in materials and biological systems. Due to the stochastic nature of radiation interactions, there is significant variation in energy deposition in micrometer‐sized targets ...

Developments for collective Thomson scattering equipment with a sub-THz gyrotron in LHD [PDF]
Plan of collective Thomson scattering (CTS) experiment for the Large Helical Device (LHD) in NIFS with a 303 GHz gyrotron is under way. Use of a sub-THz gyrotron expands the CTS-applicable region of plasma parameters.

Progress And Prospects Of The Ftu Collective Thomson Scattering Diagnostics [PDF]
During the last years anomalous signals have been found in the spectra analyzed with the Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) diagnostics in tokamak devices like TEXTOR, ASDEX and FTU. The signal frequency, down-shifted with respect to the probing one, suggested the explanation of their origin in terms of Parametric Decay Instability (PDI) processes ...
