Surrounding Vehicles Motion Prediction for Risk Assessment and Motion Planning of Autonomous Vehicle in Highway Scenarios

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Safety is the cornerstone of autonomous driving vehicles. For autonomously controlled vehicles driving safely in complex and dynamic traffic scenarios, it is essential to precisely predict the evolution of the current traffic situation in the near future

Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Inference System Based on Closest Point of Approach for Collision Avoidance between Ships

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
According to International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea, collision avoidance started from assessing the collision risk. In particular, the radar was mentioned as suitable equipment for observation and analysis of the collision risk.

Traumatic brain injury in pedestrian–vehicle collisions: Convexity and suitability of some functionals used as injury metrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background and Objective: Abrupt accelerations or decelerations can cause large strain in brain tissues and, consequently, different forms of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). In order to predict the effect of the accelerations upon the soft tissues of the

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

A Fuzzy Fusion Method for Multi-Ship Collision Avoidance Decision-Making with Merchant and Fishing Vessels

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
In multi-vessel collision avoidance decision-making, the collision between merchant and fishing vessels is a significant challenge. This paper proposes a fuzzy fusion method for making avoidance decisions under the influence of the navigation environment.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

The toll of the automobile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Animal-vehicle collisions are a common phenomenon worldwide, causing injury or death to millions of animals and hundreds of human passengers each year. Collision numbers can be significant to species conservation, wildlife management, traffic safety, as ...

Risk-sensitive Inverse Reinforcement Learning via Semi- and Non-Parametric Methods

open access: yes, 2018
The literature on Inverse Reinforcement Learning (IRL) typically assumes that humans take actions in order to minimize the expected value of a cost function, i.e., that humans are risk neutral.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
