The disturbance of oxidant-antioxidant balance in rat colonic mucosa after antibiotic therapy

open access: yesБіологічні студії, 2015
Antibiotic treatment increases susceptibility to development of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) both in children and adults. Oxidative stress plays a prominent role in IBD pathogenesis.

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THIOLATED JACKFRUIT SEED STARCH AS A COLONIC DRUG DELIVERY CARRIER

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Pharmaceutics, 2019
Objective: Site-specific drug delivery into the colonic region is extremely fascinating for local treatment of various colonic diseases like ulcerative colitis, colon cancer but it should be capable of saving the drug from hydrolysis and degradation. The

Colonic bacterial diversity and dysbiosis in active microscopic colitis as compared to chronic diarrhoea and healthy controls: effect of polyethylene glycol after bowel lavage for colonoscopy

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology, 2022
Background Most microbiota studies in microscopic colitis patients are performed after diagnostic colonoscopy without considering the potential effect of colonic lavage.

Invariant means, complementary averages of means, and a characterization of the beta-type means [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics 8 (10), Art. No. 1753(2020), 2020
We prove that whenever the selfmapping $(M_1,\dots,M_p)\colon I^p \to I^p$, ($p \in \mathbb{N}$ and $M_i$-s are $p$-variable means on the interval $I$) is invariant with respect to some continuous and strictly monotone mean $K \colon I^p \to I$ then for every nonempty subset $S \subseteq\{1,\dots,p\}$ there exists a uniquely determined mean $K_S \colon

Early molecular and functional changes in colonic epithelium that precede increased gut permeability during colitis development in mdr1a(−/−) mice

open access: yesInflammatory Bowel Diseases, 2008
Background: The early molecular changes preceding the onset of mucosal inflammation in colitis and their temporal relationship with gut permeability remain poorly defined.

The influence of in vitro gastrointestinal digestion and fecal fermentation on the flowers of Juglans regia: Changes in the active compounds and bioactivities

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
The objective of the research was to investigate the digestion and fecal fermentation characteristics of the flowers of Juglans regia (FJR), by using in vitro simulated digestion model (oral, gastric, and intestine) as well as colonic fermentation.

Study on function of aganglionic colon musculature of hirschsprung's disease murine model.

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Smooth Muscle Research, 1990
This study examined the function in vitro of aganglionic colon musculature in mice with hereditary aganglionosis--a strain of animals used as a model of Hirschsprung's disease. Double sucrose gap recordings from the muscle strips of both normal and aganglionic colon showed bursts of spike potentials with muscle contraction.

Effects on gastrointestinal functions and symptoms of serotonergic psychoactive agents used in functional gastrointestinal diseases

open access: yesJournal of gastroenterology, 2012
The effects of antidepressants on the gastrointestinal tract may contribute to their potential efficacy in functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome; buspirone, a prototype 5-HT1A agonist, enhances gastric accommodation and reduces postprandial ...

Augmented reduction in colonic inflammatory markers of dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis with a combination of 5-aminosalicylic acid and AD-lico™ from Glycyrrhiza inflata

open access: yesAnimal Cells and Systems, 2018
The primary aim of this study was to determine whether the oral administration of AD-lico™, a functional extract from Glycyrrhiza inflata in combination with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) could ameliorate the inflammatory symptoms in dextran sulfate ...

Targeted Multispectral Filter Array Design for Endoscopic Cancer Detection in the Gastrointestinal Tract [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Colour differences between healthy and diseased tissue in the gastrointestinal tract are detected visually by clinicians during white light endoscopy (WLE); however, the earliest signs of disease are often just a slightly different shade of pink compared to healthy tissue.
