dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein Induces Reactive Oxygen Species-Dependent Proliferation of Intestinal Epithelial Cells

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background/Objectives: Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) is a proinflammatory particle associated with various diseases and affects cell proliferation and viability in multiple cell types.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Dextran sulfate enhances the level of an oxidative DNA damage biomarker, 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2 0-deoxyguanosine, in rat colonic mucosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) given in drinking water can induce colonic Inflammation and produce colorectal tumors in rodents, although it is not directly genotoxic.

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Megasphaera Elesdenii Dysregulates Colon Epithelial Homeostasis, Aggravates Colitis‐Associated Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Altered gut microbiota has evidenced to be associated with colitis and colonic tumorigenesis, however bacteria‐driven mechanism underlying inflammation‐related colon pathologies remains undetermined.

Characteristics of the colonic crypts in inflammatory bowel diseases

open access: yesВестник медицинского института «Реавиз»: Реабилитация, врач и здоровье
Purpose: to characterize changes in the colon crypts in colitis and to assess their significance in the morphological diagnosis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Materials and methods: colon biopsies were retrospectively reviewed in patients with IBD

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

The protective role of PYY in intestinal mucosal defects induced by SATB2 deficiency in inflammatory bowel disease

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Impaired colonic mucosal repair is a critical issue in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). SATB2 is essential for maintaining colonic epithelial homeostasis, but its role in mucosal repair is unclear. In this study, flow cytometry was used to assess SATB2’
