Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Investigating the Interactions Between Cyanobacteria and Vibrio parahaemolyticus [PDF]
One well-known pathogen that has been the topic of many recent studies is Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which causes thousands of foodborne illnesses a year, mostly from the ingestion of raw or undercooked oysters. It has been shown cyanobacteria can act as a

The counting of surface colonies of bacteria [PDF]
A colony count performed by spreading a known volume of suspension on the surface of a plate possesses certain advantages over other methods, of which the chief is ease of counting. The distribution of counts of several samples of the same suspension on medium of the same age and batch is as expected on statistical grounds.Different batches and ages of ...

Colony Counts on Strips of Agar in Tubes [PDF]
SUMMARY: For viable counting, 0.1 ml. volumes of bacterial suspension were incorporated in 1.5-2 ml. nutrient agar, which after mixing was allowed to solidify in an almost horizontal test-tube so as to produce a 3–4 in. agar strip. After incubation in the vertical position, the counts of the strips gave estimates of a bacterial population which did not

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Combined stress from parasites, pesticides and lack of flowers drives bee declines [PDF]
Bees are subject to numerous pressures in the modern world. The abundance and diversity of flowers has declined, bees are chronically exposed to cocktails of agrochemicals, and they are simultaneously exposed to novel parasites accidentally spread by ...

G-CSF Prevents the Progression of Structural Disintegration of White Matter Tracts in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Pilot Trial [PDF]
Background: The hematopoietic protein Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) has neuroprotective and regenerative properties. The G-CSF receptor is expressed by motoneurons, and G-CSF protects cultured motoneuronal cells from apoptosis.
