Gravitational stability and dynamical overheating of stellar disks of galaxies

open access: yes, 2010
We use the marginal stability condition for galactic disks and the stellar velocity dispersion data published by different authors to place upper limits on the disk local surface density at two radial scalelengths $R=2h$.

The Essential Role of String-Derived Symmetries in Ensuring Proton-Stability and Light Neutrino Masses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The paper addresses the problem of suppressing naturally the unsafe d=4 as well as the color-triplet mediated and/or gravity-linked d=5 proton-decay operators, which generically arise in SUSY-unification.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Effect of staining beverages on color stability of composite: A spectrophotometric study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Objective: This study used spectrophotometry to examine how staining beverages affect the color stability of three commercial composite materials (nanohybrid composite (A), bulk fill composite (B), and flowable composite (C)) over time.

Temporal-mode continuous-variable cluster states using linear optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
I present an extensible experimental design for optical continuous-variable cluster states of arbitrary size using four offline (vacuum) squeezers and six beamsplitters. This method has all the advantages of a temporal-mode encoding [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104,

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Color-magnetic flux tubes in quark matter cores of neutron stars

open access: yes, 2010
We argue that if color-superconducting quark matter exists in the core of a neutron star, it may contain a high density of flux tubes, carrying flux that is mostly color-magnetic, with a small admixture of ordinary magnetic flux.
