Structural color due to guided-mode resonance in silicon-on-insulator irradiated by nanosecond laser pulses [PDF]

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials
We demonstrate structural color generation in silicon-on-insulator wafers using nanosecond laser irradiation. Laser-induced periodic surface structures on the thin Si film act as grating couplers, enabling optical resonances that produce bright ...

A Study on the Blue Coloration of Ao-ike Pond, Aomori Prefecture, Japan: Formulation of a Physical Model in Terms of Radiance and Image Analyses

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The blue coloration model of a closed pond, Ao-ike Pond, Aomori Prefecture, Japan, was formulated in terms of radiance by applying a theory of observation devices proposed by Szirmay-Kalos (2008) and Hanaishi’s reverse ray tracing method.

Comparative Study on Gemmological Characteristics and Luminescence of Colorless and Yellow Scapolites

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
The orange fluorescence of scapolite has been confirmed to be caused by (S2)−, but the frequent blue fluorescence in gem-quality scapolite has not been well explained.

Mechanisms of color constancy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America A, 1986
We develop a model of how the visual system finds the colors of objects that have unknown shapes and positions. The model relies on mechanisms of light adaptation, coupled with eye movements, to recover three descriptors of surface reflectance that are represented in the signals of an achromatic mechanism and two color-opponent mechanisms.

Mechanism Underlying Color Variation in Calla Lily Spathes Based on Transcriptomic Analysis

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science, 2021
The calla lily (Zantedeschia hybrida) is a valued ornamental plant due to its unique shape and color variations. To determine the mechanisms responsible for color development in the calla lily spathe, we conducted a comparative transcriptomic analysis of
