Endogenous Repair in Vanishing White Matter

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Vanishing white matter is a leukodystrophy with remarkable regional variation in disease severity. The cerebral and cerebellar white matter chronically degenerates, while stress‐induced episodes of rapid neurological deterioration coincide with the appearance of acute focal lesions in the deep gray structures and brainstem.

Spasticity Management in Disorders of Consciousness

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2017
Background: Spasticity is a motor disorder frequently encountered after a lesion involving the central nervous system. It is hypothesized to arise from an anarchic reorganization of the pyramidal and parapyramidal fibers and leads to hypertonia and ...

Human Brain Contusions Contain Pathogenic Transmissible Species that Induce Progressive Cognitive Decline and Tau Pathology in Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an established risk factor for dementia, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Our previous research demonstrated that a single severe TBI in wild‐type (WT) mice induces a prion‐like form of tau (tauTBI) that spreads throughout the brain, leading to memory deficits.

Mechanistic Insights Into Photocatalytic Materials for Toxic Pollutants: Environmental Remediation of Personal Care Products

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Photocatalytic materials have emerged as promising solutions for environmental applications due to their ability to degrade organic pollutants under sunlight or artificial light. In this review, recent progress on the photocatalytic materials used for the degradation of pharmaceutical personal care products (PPCPs) in environmental ...

Early EEG contributes to multimodal outcome prediction of postanoxic coma

open access: yesNeurology, 2015
Objectives: Early identification of potential recovery of postanoxic coma is a major challenge. We studied the additional predictive value of EEG. Methods: Two hundred seventy-seven consecutive comatose patients after cardiac arrest were included in a ...

Assessing the viability of genebanked seeds from rare, wild plants native to the United States using the D.E.A.D. paradigm

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Genebanks must maintain viable seeds for decades. Seeds that germinate are clearly alive, but some seeds, often from wild populations, do not germinate because they are dormant, empty, aged, or damaged (D.E.A.D.). This work evaluates the effects of D.E.A.D.
