AbstractThis article studies two issues in forecast combination, first considering ways to combine forecasts from surveys and time series models. Second, it considers the possibility, advanced by Hendry and Clements (2004), that model instability can help explain the gains in forecasting performance resulting from combination.

Multidrug resistance has rendered monotherapy for malaria useless in most parts of the world, and has also compromised the usefulness of many of the available combination chemotherapies. New antimalarial regimens are, therefore, urgently needed. We review the various antimalarial combinations that can be used to treat otherwise drug-resistant disease ...

In 1961 Rossmann & Blow published a simple procedure for analytically combining the phase probabilities derived from various isomorphous derivatives or other phase-determining procedures [Rossmann & Blow (1961). Acta Cryst. 14, 641-647]. However, they found it necessary to make an approximation in obtaining the expression for the lack of closure ...

Combinations of antimicrobial agents are most often used to provide empiric broad spectrum coverage. Other potential reasons for combination therapy include treatment of polymicrobial infections, to enhance killing or inhibition (synergism), to reduce the potential for developing resistance, and less commonly to allow reduction in the dose of a toxic ...

While the academic literature primarily investigates factor exposures based on covariances (i.e. beta exposure), most practitioners apply characteristics-based scorings to obtain factor portfolios. It hereby remains largely unexplored how firm-level characteristics can be combined to obtain optimal factor portfolios.

Six rationales for using combination analgesics are identified, but most combinations are formulated with two rationales in mind: enhancement of analgesia and reduction of adverse effects by combining two analgesics with different mechanisms of action. Acetaminophen and aspirin are the mainstays of oral analgesic combinations.

This chapter describes quantitative methodology that is directed toward assessing interactions between a combination of agonist drugs that individually produce overtly similar effects. Drugs administered in combination may show exaggerated, reduced or predictable effects that are dependent on the specific drug pair and the doses of t h e constituents ...

Although not allowing one to state conclusively that a particular combination of approaches to CMV and adjuncts to CMV affect outcome, the results are encouraging. Independently, none of the modalities discussed-HFV, ECMO, NO, or PLV-have shown a statistically significant improvement in outcome except NO.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) has multiple consequences, ranging from molecular imbalances to glial scar formation to functional impairments. It is logical to think that a combination of single treatments implemented in the right order and at the right time will be required to repair the spinal cord.

Immunotherapy of cancer encompasses different strategies that elicit or enhance the immune response against tumors. The first results from clinical studies have provided promising data for the treatment of lung cancer patients with immunomodulating monotherapies.
