A Combinatorial Perspective of the Protein Inference Problem
In a shotgun proteomics experiment, proteins are the most biologically meaningful output. The success of proteomics studies depends on the ability to accurately and efficiently identify proteins.

Penney's game between many players
We recall a combinatorial derivation of the functions generating probability of winnings for each of many participants of the Penney's game and show a generalization of the Conway's formula to this case.Comment: 6 ...

A characterization of testable hypergraph properties [PDF]
We provide a combinatorial characterization of all testable properties of $k$-graphs (i.e. $k$-uniform hypergraphs). Here, a $k$-graph property $\mathbf{P}$ is testable if there is a randomized algorithm which makes a bounded number of edge queries and ...

Some aspects of teaching combinatorics and statistics
The paper deals with some definitions of combinatorial and statistical terms. Trying to find out why some certain knowledge of combinatory, probability theory ant statistics is difficult to acquire for pupils, some schoolbooks of mathematics are examined.

Key Distribution System Based on Hadamard Designs
The problem of key distribution in a community for providing secure communication between its participants is studied. To solve this problem, key predistribution systems can be used, in which each user receives some key information that can later be used

Free cumulants, Schr\"oder trees, and operads
The functional equation defining the free cumulants in free probability is lifted successively to the noncommutative Fa\`a di Bruno algebra, and then to the group of a free operad over Schr\"oder trees.

A Combinatorial Lemma and its Application to Probability Theory [PDF]
To explain the idea behind the present paper the following fundamental principle is emphasized. Let X = (X 1,…, X n ) be an n-dimensional vector valued random variable, and let µ(x) =µ(x 1…, x n )be its probability measure (defined on euclidean n-space E n ).

Cross entropy-based memetic algorithms: An application study over the tool switching problem [PDF]
This paper presents a parameterized schema for building memetic algorithms based on cross-entropy (CE) methods. This novel schema is general in nature, and features multiple probability mass functions and Lamarckian learning.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The substantial key to initiate an explicit statistical formula for a physically specified continua is to consider a derivative expression, in order to identify the definitive configuration of the continua itself. Moreover, this statistical formula is to
