The Viability of the Refractory High‐Entropy Alloy AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr for High‐Temperature Structural Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 9, May 2025.
Refractory high‐entropy alloys have attracted substantial attention for future ultrahigh‐temperature structural applications. Here the progression of key phase transformations in AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr is established and correlated to the mechanical performance, highlighting the importance of the B2 phase.

Combustion Dynamics of Ten-injector Rocket Engine Using Flamelet Progress Variable [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The combustion instability is investigated computationally for a ten-injector rocket engine using the compressible flamelet progress variable (FPV) model and detached eddy simulation (DES). An C++ code is developed based on OpenFOAM 4.1 to apply the combustion model. Flamelet tables are generated for methane/oxygen combustion at the background pressure

Bayesian models for the determination of resonant frequencies in a DI diesel engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A time series method for the determination of combustion chamber resonant frequencies is outlined. This technique employs the use of Markov-chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to infer parameters in a chosen model of the data.

Combining Metal Additive Manufacturing and Casting Technology: High Performance Cooling Channels for Electric Powertrain Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
When realized as inserts in high‐pressure die casting, aluminum cooling channels for electric powertrain components and similar applications typically require a stabilizing filler to survive the process. The present study investigates relinquishing this filler using additively manufactured inserts promising performance improvements.

A Wireless Wearable Sensor System Based on a Silver Nanowire‐Decorated Silicon Nanomembrane for Precise and Continuous Hazardous Gas Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 15, April 10, 2025.
Silver nanowire‐decorated silicon nanomembrane (AgNW‐SiNM) wireless wearable gas sensor exhibits a high response of ≈1.83 upon exposure to 10 ppm NH3. A stacked structure of the AgNW‐SiNM gas sensor with a flexible Joule heater improves the recovery rate after gas exposure.

Numerical study of ignition and combustion of hydrogen-enriched methane in a sequential combustor [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Ignition and combustion behavior in the second stage of a sequential combustor are investigated numerically at atmospheric pressure for pure CH4 fueling and for a CH4/H2 fuel blend in 24:1 mass ratio using Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Pure CH4 fueling results in a turbulent propagating flame anchored by the hot gas recirculation zone developed near the

Optical Hydrogen Sensing Materials for Applications at Sub‐Zero Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the viability of optical hydrogen sensors at temperatures as low as −60°C. Using advanced metal hydride materials, the sensors detect hydrogen with high sensitivity, speed, and stability across a wide range of concentrations. These findings open doors for safe hydrogen detection in extreme cold, enabling applications in aviation,

Factors Affecting Characteristic Length of the Combustion Chamber of Liquid Propellant Rocket Engines

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2019
Optimum characteristic length of the combustion chamber of liquid rocket engine is very important to get higher energy from the liquid propellants. Characteristic length is defined by the time required for complete burning of fuel.
