NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory Observations of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS (C/2025 N1)

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report on the observation and measurement of astrometry, photometry, morphology, and activity of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, also designated C/2025 N1 (ATLAS) with the NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory.

Modified comet assays for the detection of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers and oxidative base damages

open access: yesJournal of Radiation and Cancer Research, 2017
The comet assay (also known as single-cell gel electrophoresis) is a technique for the detection of DNA damage at the level of the individual cell. It is a versatile, relatively simple to perform and sensitive method.

FUV Observations of the Inner Coma of 46P/Wirtanen

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2021
Far-ultraviolet observations of comets yield information about the energetic processes that dissociate the sublimated gases from their primitive surfaces.

Detection of comet nuclei at large heliocentric distances [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1992
The largest long-period comets which have passed perihelion during the past half-century should still be observable. Fourteen candidate comets with well-determined orbits are presented, including data on their absolute magnitudes, distances and predicted positions in the sky.

A Sub‐Microsecond Switch Enabling SWIFT 23Na Imaging at 10.5 T

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To enable sodium SWIFT imaging, which is a zero‐echo time imaging technique, at ultra‐high magnetic fields through the development of custom electronics hardware, and to showcase this capability with in vivo imaging results. Methods The custom hardware developed consists of a high‐speed optical trigger with 10 ns resolution, an in‐bore

Spin-dependent μ→e conversion

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2017
The experimental sensitivity to μ→e conversion on nuclei is expected to improve by four orders of magnitude in coming years. We consider the impact of μ→e flavour-changing tensor and axial-vector four-fermion operators which couple to the spin of ...

From Flybys to Sample Return: A Review of Space Probes and Robotic Sampling Technologies for Small Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As a crucial puzzle piece of deep space exploration, exploring small bodies can provide significant scientific insights and valuable mineral resources. Unlike missions to the Moon and Mars, small‐body missions pose distinct technical challenges, including communication delays, weak gravity, and uncertain environments. This paper reviews a full

Late Pebble Accretion of Comet 81P/Wild 2 Nucleus: Evidence from a Plagioclase-bearing Chondrule Fragment, Pyxie

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Comet 81P/Wild 2 is a ∼4.5 km-sized primordial object that almost has not been modified by internal heating by ^26 Al decay. Its nucleus could have been formed by hierarchical agglomeration or gravitational collapse of pebble swarms concentrated by ...

Mammalian Osteoderm Ultrastructure in the Armored Acomys Spiny Mouse Tail

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The ultrastructure of armored platelets – termed osteoderms – in the tail skin of Acomys cahirinus spiny mice is characterized using 2D and 3D microscopy methods. The imbricated structure is composed of calcium phosphate biomineral and has select structural elements that are bone‐like and tooth‐like in nature.

Multiple Outbursts of Halley-type Comet 12P/Pons–Brooks

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present optical observations of the Halley-type comet 12P/Pons–Brooks (12P) on its approach to perihelion. The comet was active even in the first observations at ∼8 au.
