Are 2I/Borisov and Oort Cloud Comets Alike? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The interstellar comet 2I/Borisov bears a strong resemblance to Oort Cloud comets, judging from its appearance in images taken over the first six weeks of observation. To test the proposed affinity in more diagnostic terms, 2I is compared to Oort Cloud comets of similar perihelion distance, near 2 AU.

The Diagnostic Value of Artificial Intelligence in C‐TIRADS 4–5 Nodules, Real‐Time Dynamic Ultrasound and Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasound to Enhance the Difference Between Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma and Nodular Goiter

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
Our findings are given the increasing application of AI in medical imaging and the clinical necessity to improve the accuracy of thyroid nodule evaluation. The majority voting system combining C‐TIRADS, CEUS, and AI real‐time ultrasound‐assisted diagnosis achieved the highest diagnostic performance, with a sensitivity of 97% and specificity of 89 ...

Genotoxicity study of Ethiopian medicinal plant extracts on HepG2 cells

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2018
Background Most of herbal medicines are used without any standard safety and toxicological trials although common assumption is that these products are nontoxic. However, this assumption is incorrect and dangerous, so toxicological studies should be done

The Dust Tail of Asteroid (3200) Phaethon

open access: yes, 2013
We report the discovery of a comet-like tail on asteroid (3200) Phaethon when imaged at optical wavelengths near perihelion. In both 2009 and 2012, the tail appears >=350" (2.5x10^8 m) in length and extends approximately in the projected anti-solar ...

Gas Chromatography‐Mass Spectrometry Analysis, Genoprotective, and Antioxidant Potential of Curio Radicans (L. f.) P.V. Heath

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The ethyl acetate extract of Curio radicans is found to contain a higher proportion of bioactive compounds (55% vs 30% in the ethanolic extract) by gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry, and it exhibits stronger antioxidant activity in the DPPH assay (75% vs 65% inhibition) as well as clear genoprotective effects against H2O2‐induced DNA damage ...

Modelling the light-curve of KIC 12557548b: an extrasolar planet with a comet like tail

open access: yes, 2013
An object with a very peculiar light-curve was discovered recently using Kepler data. Authors argue that this object may be a transiting disintegrating planet with a comet like dusty tail. We calculate the light-curves of stars with such planets and take

“Green” Aqueous Synthesis, Structural, and Optical Properties of Quaternary Cu2ZnSnS4 and Cu2NiSnS4 Nanocrystals

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Novel Cu–Ni–Sn–S nanocrystals (NCs) stabilized with thioglycolic acid are synthesized in aqueous solutions. The structural and optical properties of Cu–Ni–Sn–S NCs are examined in colloidal solutions and thin films and compared to those of Cu–Zn–Sn–S NCs. The absorption coefficient is α > 104 cm−1 at 400 nm with an estimated Eg≈2.2 eV.
