A rare case of human infection with Orf virus in China, 2024

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Orf virus is a globally distributed zoonotic pathogen that mainly infects sheep and goats, although cases of human infection have been occasionally reported. In this study, we reported a rare case of human infection with Orf virus in China. A 66-year-old

Direct detection of Corynebacterium striatum, Corynebacterium propinquum, and Corynebacterium simulans in sputum samples by high-resolution melt curve analysis

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2021
Background Pulmonary infections caused by non-diphtheriae corynebacteria are increasing. However, rapid identification of Corynebacterium species poses a challenge due to the low genetic variation within the genus.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Modeling the burden of long COVID in California with quality adjusted life-years (QALYS)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 may develop post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (“long COVID”) even after asymptomatic or mild acute illness. Including time varying COVID symptom severity can provide more informative burden estimates for public health ...

Factors associated with frailty status compared to pre-frailty in community-dwelling older adults: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
ObjectiveTo identify factors distinguishing frail from pre-frail status in community-dwelling older adults and construct a risk prediction model with logistic regression as the primary method to identify independent risk factors, and a neural network as ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
