Compact U(1) gauge theories in 2+1 dimensions and the physics of low dimensional insulating materials

open access: yes, 2003
Compact abelian gauge theories in $d=2+1$ dimensions arise often as an effective field-theoretic description of models of quantum insulators. In this paper we review some recent results about the compact abelian Higgs model in $d=2+1$ in that context ...

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

An Analytical Model for the Gate C–V Characteristics of UTB III—V-on-Insulator MIS Structure

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2017
We propose a physics-based analytical model for gate capacitance-voltage characteristics of ultra-thin-body III - V-on-insulator (XOI) MIS structure. The accuracy of the analytical model is verified by comparing with TCAD results.

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Modeling of Carrier Trapping and Its Impact on Switching Performance

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2018
Requirements for compact modeling to predict circuit power loss accurately are the focus of this investigation. Most important is the capturing of the differences between an ideal carrier reaction within the used devices and the reality during circuit ...
