Knowing how proteases recognise preferred substrates facilitates matching proteases to applications. The S1′ pocket of protease EA1 directs cleavage to the N‐terminal side of hydrophobic residues, particularly leucine. The S1′ pocket of thermolysin differs from EA's at only one position (leucine in place of phenylalanine), which decreases cleavage ...

AbstractSince the early 1980s, logical theories of belief revision have offered formal methods for the transformation of knowledge bases or “corpora” of data and beliefs. Early models have dealt with unconditional acceptance and integration of potentially belief-contravening pieces of information into the existing corpus.

Comparison of MSACD models [PDF]
We propose a new framework for modelling time dependence in duration processes on financial markets. The well known autoregressive conditional duration (ACD) approach introduced by Engle and Russell (1998) will be extended in a way that allows the ...

Exploring lipid diversity and minimalism to define membrane requirements for synthetic cells
Designing the lipid membrane of synthetic cells is a complex task, in which its various roles (among them solute transport, membrane protein support, and self‐replication) should all be integrated. In this review, we report the latest top‐down and bottom‐up advances and discuss compatibility and complexity issues of current engineering approaches ...

C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings

AbstractThis paper gives a generalization of the Sturm comparison theorem for differential equations (p): y″ = p(t)y, (q): y″ = q(t)y under the assumption that the function p − q changes its sign exactly once on [a, b] or ∝tbp − q, ∝atp − q maintain the sign on [a, b].

Exploring Body Comparison Tendencies: Women Are Self-Critical Whereas Men Are Self-Hopeful [PDF]
Our study examined similarities and differences in women’s and men’s comparison tendencies and perfection beliefs when evaluating their face, body shape, and physical abilities, as well as how these tendencies and beliefs relate to their body esteem ...

The Arabidopsis mutants hls1 hlh1 and amp1 lamp1 exhibit pleiotropic developmental phenotypes. Although the functions of the causative genes remain unclear, they act in the same genetic pathway and are thought to generate non‐cell‐autonomous signals.

In the current paper we investigate how feedback over decision outcomes may affect future decisions. In an experimental study we demonstrate that if people receive feedback over the outcomes they obtained (“factual outcomes”) and the outcomes they would ...

Let X be any algebraic variety over \({\mathbb{C}}\). Then there is in a natural way associated to X a complex analytic space \(X_{an}\). Also for every coherent algebraic sheaf F on X there is an associated coherent analytic sheaf \(F_{an}\) on \(X_{an}\), and one has comparison maps \(\alpha_ i: H^ i(X,F)\to H^ i(X_{an},F_{an})\) on cohomology.
