Military Pay: Key Questions and Answers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
[Excerpt] The military compensation system is complex and includes an array of cash compensation elements, non-cash compensation (benefits), deferred compensation (retirement pay and benefits), and tax advantages.

Minireview: Sex Differences in Adult and Developing Brains: Compensation, Compensation, Compensation [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 2004
AbstractDespite decades of research, we do not know the functional significance of most sex differences in the brain. We are heavily invested in the idea that sex differences in brain structure cause sex differences in behavior. We rarely consider the possibility that sex differences in brain structure may also prevent sex differences in overt ...

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Employee Compensation: Know the true costs of employment and optimize them to benefit employers, employees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
KEY FINDINGS · While most employees—and possibly some employers—think of employee compensation primarily in terms of “wages” or “salary,” many employees’ total compensation packages add up to a significantly larger figure.

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

How Much Does My Work Affect My Health? The Relationships between Working Conditions and Health in an Italian Survey

open access: yesSafety and Health at Work, 2021
Backround: Working condition surveys are widely recognized as useful tools for monitoring the quality of working life and the improvements introduced by health and safety policy frameworks at the European and national level.

Dispersion Compensation using High-Positive Dispersive Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The common and traditional method for dispersion compensation in optical domain is concatenating the transmit optical fiber by a compensating optical fiber having high-negative dispersion coefficient. In this paper, we take an opposite direction and show how an optical fiber with high-positive dispersion coefficient can also be used for dispersion ...

Dynamical compensation and structural identifiability: analysis, implications, and reconciliation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The concept of dynamical compensation has been recently introduced to describe the ability of a biological system to keep its output dynamics unchanged in the face of varying parameters.

Commonalities in compensation [PDF]

open access: yesBioEssays, 2006
AbstractThe sex chromosomes of many species differ in dosage but the total gene expression output is similar, a phenomenon referred to as dosage compensation. Previously, diverse mechanisms were postulated to account for compensation in distantly related taxa.
