Pressured by questions tabled in parliament that point to a lack of adequate enforcement of regulations, the DCG(I) has abruptly initiated action to ensure payment of compensation for trial-related injuries. While it is astounding that non-compliance to the existing regulations could have gone unnoticed by quality assurance staff as well as by the ...

Patch‐clamp recordings revealed that tamoxifen inhibits voltage‐gated sodium channels, especially under acidic conditions, both common in metastatic cancer cells. These effects may explain certain antitumor properties of tamoxifen, highlighting a novel mechanism of action beyond its known endocrine effects.

Minireview: Sex Differences in Adult and Developing Brains: Compensation, Compensation, Compensation [PDF]
AbstractDespite decades of research, we do not know the functional significance of most sex differences in the brain. We are heavily invested in the idea that sex differences in brain structure cause sex differences in behavior. We rarely consider the possibility that sex differences in brain structure may also prevent sex differences in overt ...

A Unified Framework for the Study of Anti-Windup Designs [PDF]
We present a unified framework for the study of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems subject to control input nonlinearities. The framework is based on the following two-step design paradigm: "Design the linear controller ignoring control input ...

Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...

Executive Compensation and CEO Equity Incentives in China’s Listed Firms (CRI 2009-006) [PDF]
This study investigates the economic, ownership and governance determinants of executive compensation and CEO equity incentives in China’s listed firms. Consistent with the agency theory, we find that executive compensation is positively correlated with ...

In situ surface coverage analysis of RuO2-catalysed HCl oxidation reveals the entropic origin of compensation in heterogeneous catalysis [PDF]
In heterogeneous catalysis, rates with Arrhenius-like temperature dependence are ubiquitous. Compensation phenomena, which arise from the linear correlation between the apparent activation energy and the logarithm of the apparent pre-exponential factor ...

Key role for inhibins in effective T cell activation, migration and Th17 differentiation
Activins/inhibins modulate immune responses. Here, we show that inhibins can be produced very early after T cell activation and can act in an autocrine way, favoring Th1 versus Th17 differentiation and CCL19/CCL21 mediated migration. Recombinant inhibin A can restore the Th1/Th17 balance, highlighting the role of inhibins as key regulators of T cell ...

Two general methods for coupling marked point processes (MPPs) on the real half-line are proposed. The MPPs are explicitly formulated in terms of (canonical) compensators, i.e. there is a (predictable in the canonical sense) kernel \(\alpha \) from \(S\times N_{\mathcal {X}}\) to \(R^{+} \times \mathcal {X}\), where \(S\) is the space of initial values,
