Effects of Light and Nutrients on Tomato Plant Compensation for Herbivory by \u3ci\u3eManduca Sexta\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This preliminary study examined how two resources (light and nutrients) influence the ability of tomato plants to show growth compensation for defoliation by the tobacco homworm (Manduca sexta).

Quantitative morphology of compensatory lung growth

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Review, 2006
Compensatory lung growth is defined by the absolute increases in the quantity of functioning lung tissue in response to injury and/or disease, leading to a positive impact on functional outcome. The pneumonectomy model is used as an example to illustrate

Progressive in vivo detection of wooden breast in broilers as affected by dietary energy and protein

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2021
Wooden breast (WB) myopathy was investigated in broilers fed varying energy and protein at early ages. Correlation analyses were conducted between echogenicity of ultrasound images (US) of breast muscle from live birds and WB after slaughter.

COMPENSATORY GROWTH IN THE RAT TIBIA

open access: yesCell Proliferation, 1974
ABSTRACTWhen the proximal cartilage plate of one tibia of a rat is sterilized by radiation, compensatory growth occurs at the distal plate of the same bone. This growth is marked by small changes in the cell kinetic parameters and histology of the growth cartilage when compared with the distal cartilage plate in the unirradiated tibia.

Growth patterns of Filipino children indicate potential compensatory growth

open access: yesAnnals of Human Biology, 2005
The extent to which compensatory growth can occur after 2 years of age among children who were stunted in infancy has been questioned due, in part, to limitations in the data used to explore the issue. This study uses longitudinal data with multiple measurements over the entirety of the growth period to explore the potential for post-infancy ...

Living on a trophic subsidy: Algal quality drives an upper-shore herbivore’s consumption, preference and absorption but not growth rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Indexación: Scopus. The transfer of seaweeds from subtidal bottoms to nearby intertidal rocky shores is a common but often overlooked phenomenon. Freshly detached seaweeds often represent critical trophic subsidies for herbivores living in upper-shore ...

Mouse Pneumonectomy Model of Compensatory Lung Growth [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Visualized Experiments, 2014
In humans, disrupted repair and remodeling of injured lung contributes to a host of acute and chronic lung disorders which may ultimately lead to disability or death. Injury-based animal models of lung repair and regeneration are limited by injury-specific responses making it difficult to differentiate changes related to the injury response and injury ...

Adaptive changes in GFR, tubular morphology, and transport in subtotal nephrectomized kidneys: modeling and analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Removal of renal mass stimulates anatomical and functional adaptations in the surviving nephrons, including elevations in single-nephron glomerular filtration rate (SNGFR) and tubular hypertrophy. A goal of this study is to assess the extent to which the

Growth and flowering responses of eelgrass to simulated grazing and fecal addition by Brant Geese

open access: yesEcosphere, 2021
Seagrasses provide a wide range of ecosystem services and are prioritized in conservation planning. Management of this dynamic community requires describing seagrass responses to repeated grazing by dependent herbivores. Using two experimental randomized

Digestive and locomotor capacity show opposing responses to changing food availability in an ambush predatory fish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Metabolic rates vary widely within species, but little is known about how variation in the “floor” (i.e. standard metabolic rate in ectotherms; SMR) and “ceiling” (maximum metabolic rate; MMR) for an individual's aerobic scope (AS) are linked with the ...
