C1-inactivator is upregulated in glioblastoma. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2017
Background Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive type of primary brain tumor in adults. A key problem is the capacity of glioma cells to inactivate the body’s immune response.

Active disassembly of the first complement component, C-1, by C-1 inactivator.

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 1979
In order to clarify its mechanism of disassembly, the first component of human complement, C1, was reconstituted from C1q, 125I-C1r, and 131I-C1s. This radiolabeled C1 bound tightly to aggregated IgG covalently linked to Sepharose 4B.

No prominent role for complement C1-esterase inhibitor in Marfan syndrome mice

open access: yesVascular Biology, 2022
Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a connective tissue disorder causing aortic aneurysm formation. Currently, only prophylactic aortic surgery and blood pressure-lowering drugs are available to reduce the risk of aortic rupture.

The axis of complement C1 and nucleolus in antinuclear autoimmunity

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Antinuclear autoantibodies (ANA) are heterogeneous self-reactive antibodies that target the chromatin network, the speckled, the nucleoli, and other nuclear regions.

Citrullination of C1-inhibitor as a mechanism of impaired complement regulation in rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Background Dysregulated complement activation, increased protein citrullination, and production of autoantibodies against citrullinated proteins are hallmarks of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Autoantibodies against Complement Classical Pathway Components C1q, C1r, C1s and C1-Inh in Patients with Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022
Autoantibodies against the complement component C1q (anti-C1q) are among the main biomarkers in lupus nephritis (LN) known to contribute to renal injury.

Studies on Human Complement: The Relationship of C3, C5, ß1c and ß1a

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 1971
Nine proteins of the complement system have been isolated from isolectric focusing columns. The pI values were: C1, 4.99; C4, 6.40; C2, 5.52; C3, 5.75; C5, 4.10; C6, 6.00; C7, 5.59; C8, 5.60 and 6.50; and C9, 4.72. Recovery was between 50% and 100% for

Peptide Inhibitor of Complement C1 (PIC1) demonstrates antioxidant activity via single electron transport (SET) and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT)

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are natural byproducts of oxidative respiration that are toxic to organs and tissues. To mitigate ROS damage, organisms have evolved a variety of antioxidant systems to counteract these harmful molecules, however in certain ...
