Differential complement pathways and components in the clinical spectrum of systemic lupus erythematosus [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy
Objectives The precise contributions of the classical (CP), lectin (LP), and alternative (AP) pathways to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remain incompletely understood.

Complement C2 receptor inhibitor trispanning: from man to schistosome [PDF]

open access: yesSpringer Seminars in Immunopathology, 2005
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT), in relation to genetic transfer between hosts and parasites, is a little described mechanism. Since the complement inhibitor CRIT was first discovered in the human Schistosoma parasite (the causative agent of Bilharzia) and in Trypanosoma cruzi (a parasite causing Chagas' disease), it has been found to be distributed ...

Development of an anti-rat complement C2 antibody that improves renal outcome in a rat kidney transplant model [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundPreviously we reported on the therapeutic monoclonal anti-human C2 antibody empasiprubart that inhibits activation of the classical and lectin pathways of complement.

Effect of olanzapine on changes in serum complement factors levels in patients with first-episode schizophrenia [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry
Objective An increasing number of studies have demonstrated that patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) exhibit complement system disorders, and alterations in serum complement factor levels may serve as biomarkers for guiding the diagnosis, prognosis, and ...

Randomized phase I trial outcomes show safe and sustainable inhibition of classical and lectin complement pathways by empasiprubart [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Activation of classical and lectin complement pathways contributes to several human diseases. Empasiprubart is a humanized recycling monoclonal antibody that inhibits both pathways by binding to the CCP2 domain of complement factor 2 (C2), an interaction

Alternatively spliced transcripts of the human complement C2 gene.

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 1994
Abstract To investigate the possible presence of alternatively spliced C2 gene transcripts, we amplified mRNA from HepG2 cells by reverse transcription-PCR using primers derived from the 5' and 3' untranslated regions of the C2 mRNA. Cloning of the resulting products revealed the presence of four novel C2 mRNA size variants.

Impact of complement system proteins on the clinical progression of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background The complement system is an important defense mechanism against pathogens, including viruses. In COVID-19, evidence suggests that hyperactivation of the complement system can lead to tissue damage and provoke dysregulation of the coagulation ...

Complement Activation Profile in Myasthenia Gravis Patients: Perspectives for Tailoring Anti-Complement Therapy

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
The complement system plays a key role in myasthenia gravis (MG). Anti-complement drugs are emerging as effective therapies to treat anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody-positive MG patients, though their usage is still limited by the high costs ...
