Complement factors and reticular pseudodrusen in intermediate age-related macular degeneration staged by multimodal imaging

open access: yesBMJ Open Ophthalmology, 2020
Objective Systemic activation of the complement system in intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is understudied. Moreover, links between the presence of reticular pseudodrusen (RPD) and systemic complement dysregulation have not been ...

Complement C2 polymorphisms in children with Henoch Schönlein purpura

open access: yesCukurova Medical Journal, 2020
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether C2 polymorphisms influence the symptoms and disease outcomes in children with Henoch Schönlein purpura (HSP).Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 49 children with HSP, diagnosed and followed for at least 6 months in our department between July 2016 and March 2018.

Studies of an additional kindred with hereditary deficiency of the second component of human complement (C2) and description of a new method for the quantitation of C2.

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 1968
The present paper reports studies of a third kindred which manifests the hereditary C2 deficiency trait. The homozygous individual had no detectable hemolytic serum complement or C2 activity, although C2 could be detected by immune adherence; three ...

Variably Protease‐Sensitive Prionopathy: Two New Cases With Motor Neuron‐Dementia Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe two patients with variably protease‐sensitive prionopathy (VPSPr) who developed progressive upper motor neuron symptoms, insomnia, behavioral and cognitive decline, compatible with primary lateral sclerosis associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

Systemic Administration of a Site-Targeted Complement Inhibitor Attenuates Chronic Stress-Induced Social Behavior Deficits and Neuroinflammation in Mice

open access: yesCells
Chronic stress, a risk factor for many neuropsychiatric conditions, causes dysregulation in the immune system in both humans and animal models. Additionally, inflammation and synapse loss have been associated with deficits in social behavior.

Modulating Two‐Photon Absorption in a Pyrene‐Based MOF Series: An In‐Depth Investigation of Structure–Property Relationships

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates H4TBAPy‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) ‐ NU‐1000, NU‐901, SrTBAPy, and BaTBAPy ‐ for multiphoton absorption (MPA) performance. It observes topology‐dependent variations in the 2PA cross‐section, with BaTBAPy exhibiting the highest activity.

Isolation of cDNA clones for human complement component C2. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1984
Two cDNA clones for complement component C2 have been isolated from a high-complexity human liver cDNA library by using a mixture of 64 synthetic oligonucleotides as a probe. The 400-base-pair insert of pC201 codes for a region containing the active site serine residue and the secondary substrate binding pocket of the serine protease.
