Efficient chemical synthesis of human complement protein C3a [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Communications, 2013
We report the total chemical synthesis of human C3a by one-pot native chemical ligation of three unprotected peptide segments, followed by efficient in vitro folding that yielded the anaphylatoxin C3a in high yield and excellent purity. Synthetic C3a was

Complement factors C3a and C5a mimick a proinflammatory microenvironment and increase HBV IGRA sensitivity [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Translational Medicine, 2019
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections represent a global health problem and chronic hepatitis B (CHB) leads to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Thus, timely diagnosis of hepatitis B is crucial to ensure adequate treatment.

Targeting C3a and C5a Signaling—A Game Changer for Cancer Therapy? [PDF]

open access: yesBiology
Emerging evidence reveals a significant shift in understanding the complement system’s role in cancer, where activation of a complement within the tumor microenvironment (TME) fuels tumor growth and metastasis instead of suppressing it.

Cytolytic effects of the complement cleavage product, C3a [PDF]

open access: bronzeBritish Journal of Cancer, 1976
Purified C3a, a cleavage product of the third component of complement, was incubated with various cell types of human and mouse origin. All the tumour cell types tested were lysed by low concentrations of C3a, whereas normal human lymphocytes were relatively resistant. No lysis was produced by C3 or C3b.

Complement C3a receptor inactivation attenuates retinal degeneration induced by oxidative damage. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Neurosci, 2022
Retinal degeneration causes vision loss and threatens the health of elderly individuals worldwide. Evidence indicates that the activation of the complement system is associated with retinal degeneration. However, the mechanism of complement signaling in retinal degeneration needs to be further studied.

Complement peptide C3a stimulates neural plasticity after experimental brain ischaemia [PDF]

open access: bronzeBrain, 2016
Ischaemic stroke induces endogenous repair processes that include proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells and extensive rewiring of the remaining neural connections, yet about 50% of stroke survivors live with severe long-term disability.

Characterization of Synthetic C3a Analog Peptides on Human Eosinophils in Comparison to the Native Complement Component C3a [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of Immunology, 2000
Abstract The C3a anaphylatoxin is a potent proinflammatory mediator derived from the complement system inducing biologic effects of human eosinophils like Ca2+ transients and the activation of the respiratory burst. These findings support an important role for C3a in diseases typically associated with a peripheral blood or tissue ...
