Factor B of the Alternative Complement Pathway on Human Lymphocytes
Scandinavian Journal of Immunology, 1976A factor on human lymphocytes has been identified as factor B of the alternative pathway. Lymphocytes can replace factor B in the fluid phase formation of C3 convertase with cobra venom factor (CVF). This lymphocyte activity is inhibited by specific anti‐human factor B, and it is shown by Burkitt lymphoma cell lines cultured in the absence of any ...

Complement component factor B has thrombin-like activity
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2021Serine proteases are fundamental components of biology, including innate immunity, which is systematically orchestrated in an orderly, balanced fashion in the healthy host. Such serine proteases are found in two well-recognized pathways of an innate immune network, coagulation and complement.

Molecular characterization of human complement factor B subtypes
Immunogenetics, 1990While several laboratories have agreed that there are two subtypes of the BF*F alleles, no information has been available until now at the molecular level. The region of the BF gene corresponding to the Ba fragment [1.7 kilobases (kb)] of the BF*S, BF*FA, and BF*FB alleles has been sequenced after specific amplification using the polymerase chain ...

Complement factor B and the alternative pathway of complement activation in bovine milk
Journal of Dairy Research, 2002The contribution of the alternative pathway of complement activation to the capacity of normal milk to deposit C3 fragments on bacteria was tested by attempting to block C3 deposition with antibodies to the alternative pathway component factor B (fB).

Analysis of complement Factor B activation by PAGE-immunoblotting
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1989Initiation of complement activation via the alternative pathway results in cleavage of Factor B into two fragments Ba and Bb. Employing PAGE and immunoblotting analysis we have demonstrated Ba and Bb activation fragments following in vitro and in vivo activation in a range of biological fluids including cerebrospinal fluid and synovial fluid ...

Hormonal Regulation of Complement Factor B in Human Endometrium
American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 1993PROBLEM: Recent investigations have demonstrated the presence of complement components in human endometrium in a cycle‐specific manner. Luteal phase endometrium has been shown to synthesize complement C3 de novo, whereas proliferative endometrium produces little or no C3. Likewise factor B. which is critical to the activation of the alternative pathway

Complement factor H and factor B expression in RPE cells
Acta Ophthalmologica, 2008Abstract Purpose Age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of untreatable blindness in the developed world. The pathogenesis of AMD is not fully understood. Recent evidence suggests that local inflammation in particular complement activation plays an important role. We aim to understand how complement activation is regulated at retina/

Activation of the alternative pathway of complement by antiserum to factor B.
The Journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 1979Monospecific rabbit and goat antisera to human complement proteins and human immunoglobulins were tested for their ability to activate the alternative complement pathway. This activation was detected by two methods where classical pathway activation was blocked with EGTA and alternative pathway activation was promoted with added magnesium ions.

Studies on esterolytic activity of alternative complement component factor B
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1983Abstract Alternative complement component factor B was purified from human plasma and its esterolytic activity on various α-naphthylester derivatives was examined. Of these substrates, LeuAlaArg-naphthylester was the most susceptible. The K m value of factor B for this substrate was about 5·10 −4 M.

An assay for complement factor B in species at different levels of evolution
Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 1991The alternative complement pathway is regarded as the evolutionary ancestral complement system. It is therefore of interest to analyze and characterize factor B of the alternative complement pathway in animals at different levels of evolution. We describe a functional assay which is based on the interaction of factor B from various animal species with ...
