Complex permittivity measurement using metamaterial split ring resonators

Journal of Applied Physics, 2017
A direct and efficient method for determining the complex permittivity of materials at microwave frequencies using a Split Ring Resonator (SRR) metamaterial structure is presented. A single SRR unit fabricated on a substrate arranged between transmitting and receiving probes acts as a test probe.

Measurement of Complex Permittivity using Artificial Neural Networks

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, 2011
In this paper, a neural-network-based methodology is presented to measure the complex permittivity of materials using monopole probes. A multilayered artificial neural network, using the Levenberg Marquardt back-propagation algorithm, is used to back solve the complex permittivity of the medium.

Complex permittivity measurement system for detecting soil contamination

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2001
The design, calibration, and operation of a laboratory-scale system to assess the viability of detecting contaminants in soil based on changes in its electromagnetic response are described. The complex permittivity measurement device, permeation apparatus, and dielectric responses of soil specimens measured before and after permeation with different ...

Snow Microwave Complex Permittivity Measured with Resonator Sensors

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
Microwave coaxial resonator sensors are used to retrieve snow complex dielectric permittivity ${\varepsilon _{\text{S}}} = \varepsilon _{\text{S}}^{\prime}{\text{i}} \cdot \varepsilon _{\text{S}}^{\prime\prime}$ from sensors frequency response. In addition to the conventional analytical approach, electromagnetic simulation software HFSS is used to ...

Complex Permittivity Measurement using Planar Open Stub Resonator

2018 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and RF Conference (IMaRC), 2018
Dielectric constant measurement using an open stub resonator is discussed in this paper. Using this technique complex permittivity of any liquid can be found from the reflection and phase response of the CPW fed sensor operating in the frequency range of 750 MHz to 850 MHz.

Complex permittivity measurements of thin films using microdielectrometry

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1986, 1986
Classical dielectrometry illustrates how important information concerning the physical properties and state of a media can be obtained from the electrical frequency response. The modal approach to dielectrometry described here not only extracts its information from the control of the temporal frequency, but also from the imposition of a spatial ...

Measurement of Complex Permittivity of Asphalt Pavement Materials

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1999
To facilitate applications of road penetration radar and other nondestructive testing technologies on roads, an apparatus was developed for the measurement of complex permittivity of construction materials. The system consists of an automatic network analyzer, a sample holder, coaxial cable connections, and data processing software.

CEM-based extraction method for measuring complex permittivity

2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI), 2016
A common way to determine the electromagnetic properties of dielectric materials is to insert a sample of the material into a waveguide and measure the resulting reflection and transmission, i.e. the S-parameters. From the S-parameters the complex permittivity, e can then be extracted by use of various inversion schemes/algorithms, such as Nicolson ...

Broadband complex permittivity measurements by time-domain spectroscopy

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1990
The complex permittivity measurements of some materials, taken by using the time-domain reflectometry (TDR) method, are presented. As an example of the wide frequency measurement capability, both at the radio and microwave frequencies, the complex permittivity measurement of a liquid crystal is presented in the frequency range between 100 kHz and 1 GHz.

Measurement of complex permittivity of anisotropic dielectric spheres

2016 German Microwave Conference (GeMiC), 2016
A new concept to measure the dielectric properties of anisotropic spheres at microwave frequency is presented. First, the sphere is placed in a parallel-plate microstrip structure. The anisotropic axis of the sphere is determined in a three-step process.
