Prosperous teaching and the thing of darkness: Raising a Tempest in the classroom

open access: yesCogent Arts & Humanities, 2016
This essay uses Shakespeare’s The Tempest as a way of conceptualising modern institutional education. The over-systematisation of formal education which characterises professional teaching and learning in the twenty-first century is designated “SysEd ...

Comparing Two Multivariable Complexity Functions Using One-variable Complexity Classes [PDF]

open access: yes
The comparison of algorithms complexities is very important both in theory and in practice. When we compare algorithms complexities we need to compare complexity functions. Usually we use one-variable complexity functions.

Instruction sequences and non-uniform complexity theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We develop theory concerning non-uniform complexity in a setting in which the notion of single-pass instruction sequence considered in program algebra is the central notion.

The appropriation of complexity theory in health care

open access: yes, 2010
The way in which complexity is usually interpreted in the health care literature misses the whole point of complexity theory, thanks to an influential but misleading series of articles in the BMJ.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

On the complexity of theories of permutations

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 1985
The first-order theory T of two permutations which commute is investigated and its decidability is proved. Moreover, we show that the computational complexity of the decision algorithm for SAT(T) - on NTM's and ATM's - is the same (for upper and lower bounds) as that of the theory of one permutation.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
