Stress-constrained level set topology optimization for compliant mechanisms

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2020
This work presents a level set-based topology optimization procedure to design compliant mechanisms subject to local stress constraints. A classical technical difficulty related to the design of compliant mechanisms is the emergence of non-realistic ...

Compliant Mechanism Prototyping

Volume 7B: 26th Biennial Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, 2000
Abstract Flexible segments present challenges to prototyping compliant mechanisms. This paper discusses methods for prototyping compliant mechanisms, including use of 3-axis CNC milling, laser cutting, and wire EDM. Rapid prototyping methods and hybrid methods are also discussed.

Construction of Compliant Mechanisms

2020
Following the design of flexible elements in Chap. 3, their integration is further discussed in this section, which eventually leads to the construction of compliant mechanisms. The typical integration type of flexible elements includes serial, parallel and hybrid.

Compliant Wireform Mechanisms

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2008
This paper presents an alternative to fabrication methods commonly used in compliant mechanisms research, resulting in a new class of compliant mechanisms called wireform mechanisms. This technique integrates torsional springs made of formed wire into compliant mechanisms.

On the Mobility of Compliant Mechanisms

23rd Biennial Mechanisms Conference: Machine Elements and Machine Dynamics, 1994
Abstract The topological synthesis for a compliant mechanism leads to a very large number of design options from which to select a final design. Therefore, an evaluation of a mechanism’s ability to meet selected criteria provides a means of reducing a large number of possible designs to a smaller set of acceptable designs.

An Introduction to Mechanical Advantage in Compliant Mechanisms

18th Design Automation Conference: Volume 2 — Geometric Modeling, Mechanisms, and Mechanical Systems Analysis, 1992
Abstract An energy approach is utilized to determine mechanical advantage in compliant mechanisms by duly accounting for lost work due to deformation. Three mechanical advantage types are then defined which examine the isolated influences of various parameters.

Dynamical Limit of Compliant Lever Mechanisms

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2008
The application of the mechanical energy conservation principle sets a dynamical limit to the performances of compliant lever mechanisms endowed with a positive definite strain energy. The limit applies to every linear compliant lever and is given as an upper bound on the product between the static effective gain of the device and its bandwidth.

Large-Deflection Analysis of General Beams in Contact-Aided Compliant Mechanisms Using Chained Pseudo-Rigid-Body Model

, 2020
The nonlinear analysis and design of contact-aided compliant mechanisms (CCMs) are challenging. This paper presents a nonlinear method for analyzing the deformation of general beams that contact rigid surfaces in CCMs.

Topology optimization of fluidic pressure-loaded structures and compliant mechanisms using the Darcy method

Structural And Multidisciplinary Optimization, 2019
In various applications, design problems involving structures and compliant mechanisms experience fluidic pressure loads. During topology optimization of such design problems, these loads adapt their direction and location with the evolution of the ...
